Rashford, Martinez, Heaton – Current and expected return dates from Manchester United injury
Man United meet Chelsea on Thursday night with a number of players missing recent games as they are still on the treatment table
Manchester United are hoping for a boost with the return of Marcus Rashford for Thursday night’s game against Chelsea.
United are looking to secure their Champions League place next season with a point against Frank Lampard’s side. The Old Trafford side come into the game with back-to-back wins over Bournemouth and Wolves.
And Erik ten Hag’s side are now hoping to put Rashford back in the running, with the striker missing the last two games through injury and illness. The England international is back in training and could give United a boost in time – the team are looking to join Manchester City, Arsenal and Newcastle United in elite European competition. Here is the latest injury overview at United.
Marcus Rashford
Injury: disease
Possible return date: Chelsea (H), 25 May
What Ten Hag said: “Yesterday he returned to training. He seems quite fit, but today we have to see what the outcome of training is: how we recovered and then we will make our choices.”
Lisandro Martínez
Injury: foot
Possible return date: Pre-season
What Martinez said: In April, the defender released an update after the surgery. “Everything went very well, thank God! Thank you so much for all your messages. Now focus on your recovery.”
Donny van de Beek
Injury: knee
Possible return date: Pre-season
What Van de Beek said: “Everything is going well now, I feel much better and now I’m on the right track. I also need to eat a lot of protein to recover – I need to eat well to protect my knee. Soccer is a big part of your life and you enjoy it every day with your teammates. And if you must be missing that, I’m trying to look at it positively now. I’m getting closer to being back on the pitch every day and I can’t wait to be back.
Marcel Sabitzer
Injury: knee
Possible return date: pre-season
What United said: “Manchester United midfielder Marcel Sabitzer has suffered a meniscus injury which unfortunately means he will be out for the remainder of the season,” read a statement released by the club. “Everyone at the club is disappointed to lose Marcel’s services as the Reds seek a strong finish to the season in the Premier League and FA Cup and we are grateful for his contribution to our progress so far.”
Tom Heaton
Injury: ankle
Possible return date: unknown
What Heaton said: In March, the reserve goalkeeper explained: “Yes, unfortunately I twisted my ankle in training the day before the Fulham game.” Luckily it’s not that bad, but I think it will be out for a few weeks. I should be back in April, hopefully midway through.” Heaton hasn’t been on the bench for United since.
