Ligue1: You have no respect for PSG – Rothen slams Messi
Former Paris Saint-Germain forward Jerome Rothen has insisted that Lionel Messi would have scored at least 30 goals and provided 35 assists for the Parisians this season if he cared about the club.
According to Jerome, the Argentina international never respected the club and was not interested in doing well on the pitch.
The former PSG star is saying this despite the Argentine scoring 31 goals and providing 35 assists in his 73 matches for PSG.
Messi joined the club in 2021 as a free agent and is close to leaving the club this summer when his contract expires.
Jerome told RMC Sport, “By being much more invested and more combative, if he had respected the club a little more, he would be at 30 goals and 35 assists.
“This title of best passer will not hide his average record. Then we talk about Messi. When you have won seven Ballons d’Or, a World Cup and as many titles, I think beating Angel Di Maria or Jérôme Rothen doesn’t matter.”

Robert Lewandowski claims ‘any striker would dream of playing with Lionel Messi’ amid rumours he could return to Barcelona –
despite reports he has signed a new PSG deal – and admits the World Cup winner is the favourite for the Ballon d’Or
Robert Lewandowski has admitted that any striker would like to play with Lionel Messi as a return to Barcelona remains a possible option for the Argentine.
The latest news is that Messi is set to sign a new deal to stay at PSG but a return to the Nou Camp could be a fairytale ending to his career.
Lewandowski currently leads the line for Barcelona and he would welcome the World Cup winner.
‘It’s not up to me,’ he said with a smile when asked if he would like to play with Messi before he retires.
‘Of course, we see that now he plays more like a ‘playmaker’, maybe he scores fewer goals and gives more passes to his teammates although he continues to score them.
‘But compared to other times, he is now the footballer that any striker would dream of playing alongside him.
Lewandowski was also asked if he thinks Messi has already sealed an eighth Ballon d’Or.
‘Of course,’ he responded. ‘There is maybe one more player who plays for the same club but there is only one World Cup that decides who is going to win it this season and Leo is now in the top position for sure because of what he has achieved which means everything to him. He now he can enjoy it.’
