Hojlund, Henderson, Martial – Manchester United injury news and return dates ahead of Wolves opener
manchester United return to action at Old Trafford on Monday night when they welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League’s season opener
After what feels like an eternity, competitive fixtures are set to return to Old Trafford on Monday night when Manchester United kick off the season against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Erik ten Hag’s men returned from their pre-season tour of the US showing signs of what they have worked on this summer. A key component of this was the new sweeper ‘keeper role which Andre Onana has taken up.
The Cameroon international is one of three new signings to arrive at United ahead of the big kick off. Mason Mount was the first summer purchase when arriving from Chelsea, while Rasmus Hojlund completed his move from Atalanta last weekend.
However, as MEN Sport rounds-up below, we will not see the Dane in action under the lights. Here’s the latest injury news from Carrington ahead of the season opener.
Rasmus Hojlund
Injury: Back
What Ten Hag has said: “He had a small issue and he’s not on the levels where our players are at in this moment. So we have to train him. Prognosis [is] difficult always to say. We are confident and we are positive.”
Potential return date: September
Kobbie Mainoo
Injury: Ankle
What Ten Hag has said: The United boss confirmed in his pre-match press conference the impact injury which Mainoo sustained would keep him out of action for a lengthy period of time compared to some of his sidelined team-mates.
Potential return date: Late September/early October
Anthony Martial
Injury: Muscle tear
What United have said: This week Martial returned to full training at Carrington and could possibly be in line for a place on the bench on opening night.
Potential return date: August 14 vs Wolverhampton Wanderers
Tyrell Malacia
Injury: Unknown
What Ten Hag has said: “Malacia; he came to pre-season with an issue. Malacia will take some time [to recover] because it is an impact injury.”
Potential return date: Unknown
Tom Heaton
Injury: Calf
What United have said: The Reds announced this week the keeper had picked up a calf injury and would definitely miss the opening fixture. It is expected he will be out a few weeks.
Potential return date: September
Amad
Injury: Knee
What Ten Hag has said: “We had 30 players on tour who were really fit and disappointment about Amad and disappointment about Kobbie absolutely. But that’s what happens when you go to the limits. Injuries are not avoidable but we have a strong squad and from there on we can pick a really strong team. And you see the two games last weekend of two teams, two strong sides.”
Potential return date: Unknown
The transfer window is in full swing and United have got their hands on three players well in advance of the September 1 deadline, with Rasmus Hojlund joining Mason Mount and Andre Onana at Old Trafford.
A goalkeeper, a midfielder and a striker were Erik ten Hag’s priorities heading into the summer window, but that doesn’t mean their business ends here, with a move for Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat also on the cards, as well as plenty of possible departures, including Harry Maguire to West Ham.
Dean Henderson
Injury: Thigh
What Ten Hag has said: “All the other [injuries] like Henderson, [it is] quite short notice about what is the definition of it but it will take a few weeks.”
Potential return date: September
