Fan voiced out on Manchester United player international performance when Scott McTominay scored and assisted for Scotland
Scott McTominay returned to international duty and scored for Scotland as they beat Cyprus 3-0.
Over the past year, Scott McTominay has shone for Scotland, leaving Manchester United fans craving that form at Old Trafford.
McTominay scored and assisted for Scotland tonight, making him the top scorer in Euro qualifying, alongside Rasmus Hojlund and Romeu Lukaku on six.
Due to his impressive performances for Scotland, many United fans began to wonder whether he was underrated by Erik ten Hag.
After all, Scott was a striker at youth level…
McTominay scored and assisted for Scotland
Manchester United appear determined to sell McTominay this summer, with interest from Fulham and West Ham along with Bayern Munich. However, the Scot’s performances for his country got fans thinking: maybe he was playing in the wrong position and why couldn’t he play like that for United?
As a result, many fans have taken to social media to question the use of McTominay at United. One of them wrote:
“I don’t understand why we want to play Scott McTominay at No. 6 when he has so often shone higher up the pitch for Scotland. Try him elsewhere, Ten Hag, please.”
Along those same lines, a fan account posted:
“I always found it funny that we used Mctominay and Fred as No.6 for their entire careers at United when they were both in the eighth grade.”
Another wondered how much the Scotland international would be worth:
“If Rice is worth £105m then McTominay is worth at least £60m.”
One supporter wrote this message accompanied by a photo of Zinedine Zidane:
“Scott Mctominay when it’s time to play for Scotland”.
Should he get a chance for United? With his form so well suited to Scotland, it is reasonable to assume that Erik ten Hag should take notes.
Using McTominay in an advanced No. 8 role or even beyond could be a very good option for United.
His goalscoring ability continues to develop and there is no reason why he cannot become United’s second-choice striker behind Hojlund.
We really want to see it, right?
