Since “La Remontada”, Barça has not shown such resilience. The Blaugrana were miserable for 82 minutes, but regained the upper hand in the final 10, with Robert Lewandowski leading the way in an incredible comeback to beat a stubborn Celta Vigo side 3-2 .
Celta rarely had the ball from the start but they took advantage. Jorgen Larsen opened the scoring in the 19th minute, picking up a loose ball before firing a shot into the bottom corner that shocked the Olympic Stadium. In-form striker Joao Felix had a chance to equalize almost immediately, but shot over the bar after a precise pass from Barca. The away team almost got a second chance but missed three opportunities in a row, helping Xavi’s team save the day before the break.
Celta appeared to have won the game midway through the second half, when club veteran Iago Aspas fed Tasos Douvikas, who added the finishing touch to a clinical counter-attack.
However, the home team spectacularly turned the situation around at the last minute. Félix put the ball through the defense and Lewandowski followed closely, scoring the Blaugrana’s first goal. The striker scored his second goal soon after, blocking Joao Cancelo’s cross. And then the full-back scored the most spectacular winner in the 89th minute, scoring at the far corner after a precise move.
Goalkeeper and defense
Marc-André ter Stegen (June 10):
There’s nothing I can do against any of Celta’s goals. Made a great save to keep the score at 1-0 just before the break.
Joao Cancelo (7/10):
Assisting the second goal and scoring the decisive goal – two goals that erased the memory of the Man City loanee’s poor performance.
Jules Koundé (5/10):
Poorly blocked for Celta’s first goal and not particularly consistent against a taller centre-forward. It was his fault and it was exposed
Andreas Christensen (May 10):
Spinned for an hour in the mixture before being replaced. You look tired.
Marcos Alonso (5/10):
Has progressed steadily, but lacks the pace and trickery of Alejandro Balde in the final third. Switch to a central role after 60 minutes.
Midfielder
Ilkay Gündogan (June 10):
He is considered the most skilled of the three midfielders and only really comes on the field late. It wasn’t his best performance.
Oriol Romeu (May 10):
He certainly showed defensive solidity, but he didn’t move the ball quickly enough.
Frenkie de Jong (June 10):
Great combination from central midfield before conceding a goal. Xavi hopes things are not too serious.
Attack
Ferran Torres (5/10):
He seems to struggle at first, and that’s especially the case here. He runs a lot, makes the necessary efforts but misses the ball. I missed a great opportunity to equalize.
Robert Lewandowski (8/10):
He was ineffective for 80 minutes, but he scored two late goals to lead an incredible comeback.
João Félix (7/10):
Active but not particularly influential for most of the match, before providing an excellent assist for Lewandowski.
Sub and manager
Gavi (7/10):
Replaced De Jong who was injured in the first half. I booked almost immediately. Helped the winner.
Lamine Yamal (6/10):
Introduced during the break. Giving Barca a spark to attack on the right wing.
Ronald Aruajo (June 10):
Made some important tackles but was out of position for Celta’s second goal.
Alexandro Baldé (June 10):
The strange thing is that he was asked to play left center back. Extremely effective when traveling longer distances.
Raphinha (6/10):
Operated as an inside forward in the final 20 minutes and made a real difference around the box.
Xavi (7/10):
I made some changes after a busy week. Balde, Gavi and Yamal are all on the bench, along with Torres
