Sofyan Amrabat oversaw a faultless debut for Manchester United this evening as they booked their spot in the next round of the Carabao Cup.
The Red Devils began their defence of the trophy against Crystal Palace tonight and cruised to a 3-0 victory after a dominant showing.
Amrabat was named in the starting line-up for the first time, though it wasn’t in his usual position; an injury to Sergio Reguilon meant that the Moroccan was forced to take a stint as a fullback.
The Old Trafford faithful would’ve been delighted with what they saw of the deadline-day signing, as Amrabat did not put a foot wrong on his maiden outing at the Theatre of Dreams.
Amrabat reacts
Speaking post-match to Sky Sports, he reacted to the win: “A perfect night. We played very well – most importantly we won 3-0. I played an hour so I think [it was] a perfect night.
“Of course [this is what I’ve been looking forward to]. Since I was a child, I worked for this, worked for this very hard my whole career, my whole life. It’s amazing to play here [Old Trafford]. Today’s a Tuesday and you see the stadium and it’s full! It’s fantastic. Exactly [it lived up to what I’d dreamt].”
“I told the manager I’ll play where you need me, where the team needs me,” Amrabat continued when asked about his position. “If he needs a goalkeeper, I play where I can help the team. Today it was left-back but I had a bit of a free role. I think you saw that I also played a lot in the midfield. It was nice, it was good. I think you can see I like to touch the ball and have the ball always.”
He added: “I play where the coach and where the team needs me. If it’s left-back, it’s left-back. Of course, I’m a midfielder, I prefer to play in midfield, but I play where the team need me.”
“I think it was a perfect night!” 😍
