Verbal agreement imminent: Man United is in “very advanced talks” to sign a player for £30 million; Sir Alex Ferguson is a major fan

‘Verbal agreement soon’: Man United in ‘very advanced talk’ to sign £30m star, Sir Alex Ferguson is a big fan

Manchester United are in very advanced talks to sign Genoa defender Radu Dragusin, according to Romanian publication ProSport.

The Red Devils have had a frustrating season thus far and they recently suffered their ninth defeat of the campaign across all competitions.

United are likely to spend in January to reinforce their squad and ProSport claim that the club are in ‘very advanced’ talks to land Dragusin.

Erik ten Hag’s side are prepared to make a significant financial effort to sign the 21-year-old, who has been compared to Nemanja Vidic.

The youngster joined Genoa from Juventus last summer after a loan stint. The Serie A outfit are set to hold out for his €30 million release clause.

Dragusin would be a surprise winter signing
United were linked with the likes of Kim Min-jae, Benjamin Pavard and Jean-Clair Todibo last summer.

Min-jae and Pavard joined Napoli and Inter Milan respectively while Todibo ended up staying at Nice with the Red Devils not having the funds to sign him.

Their plan was to offload Harry Maguire before pursuing a marquee centre-back, but the former captain made it clear that he wanted to stay at the club.

Maguire has since turned around his fortunes under Ten Hag and as things stand, Raphael Varane looks the more likely candidate to leave in January.

Todibo was recently mentioned as the big objective for United and their interest in Dragusin definitely comes as a surprise ahead of the New Year.

The 21-year-old likes to play from the left centre-back role. This has been a problematic position for United this term with regular change of personnel.

Ten Hag does not believe Varane is good enough for the position and the Dutchman could be interested in signing a young centre-back with huge potential.

Dragusin is not a tough tackler but he is a good passer of the ball. He averages an impressive 4.9 clearances this term, winning 69 per cent of his duels.

His aerial prowess is a big strength of his game. He should be well suited for the Premier League. For €30m, he would be a good acquisition for United.

A new goalkeeper, two defender, theee midfielder and a strong striker’: Sir Jim Ratcliffe identifies ‘key transfer priorities’ ahead of Man United bid confirmation

Sir Jim Ratcliffe will reportedly order Manchester United’s recruitment team to focus on homegrown talent once his partial takeover of the club is approved.

The INEOS chief remains on the verge of buying 25% of the Old Trafford club for £1.3billion. Ratcliffe will take over football operations and is already planning to make big changes, including overhauling transfer strategy.

According to the Daily Mail, Ratcliffe wants to see more domestic talent come through the ranks and represent the first team, similar to the legendary ‘Class of 92’ which included the likes of David Beckham, Ryan Giggs and the Neville brothers.
Since then, United have lavished huge sums on foreign talent, with successes as well as expensive mistakes in the transfer market. United’s recruitment over the last decade, since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, has been extremely questionable.

In light of that, Ratcliffe wants to see a new domestic-focused approach with more British players in the side. However, that could be easier said than done, with fees for British players widely regarded to be inflated compared to players of similar ability from abroad.

Changes are already taking place behind the scenes with chief executive Richard Arnold set to leave the club. Patrick Stewart will take on the role on an interim basis less than two years after Arnold was picked to replace Ed Woodward back in February of 2022. That change is set to happen by the end of the year.

Football director John Murtough, who has been responsible for United’s work in the transfer market, is also set to leave the club, as reported by Daily Star Sport earlier this month.

Murtough became United’s first ever football director when he was promoted to the role from his previous position as the club’s head of football development. He was tasked with overseeing operations and strategy across all football functions at the club.
