Chelsea fans in shock as star player Conor Gallagher drops transfer hint about leaving Chelsea to join another Premiere league team

Chelsea transfer news as the Blues midfielder uses a social media post after the victory over Luton to emphasize the impact he’s made on the team so far this season.

Conor Gallagher, a midfielder for Chelsea, has hinted subtly about his future at the club despite being linked to a £40 million transfer to rival Tottenham during the January transfer window.

Mauricio Pochettino, the manager of the Blues, has named Gallagher the acting captain. The midfield star has already contributed four goals in 23 games this 2023–24 season, but despite his reliability, Spurs, Newcastle United, and West Ham are all reportedly interested in signing Gallagher away from Stamford Bridge.

Reports over time has highlighted that Spurs are not in negotiations with Chelsea for Gallagher at this time but what is clear is the star’s previous desire to stay at Stamford Bridge. When asked about his future last month following the international break and his England callup, Gallagher claimed: “Training and playing alongside midfielders worth 100 plus million pounds is good and shows where I’m at as well. So hopefully I can continue to perform well to keep playing as many games as I can.

“I’m sure that it [his contract] will get sorted out, everyone knows Chelsea is my club and I love playing for them. The fans are brilliant and I’m loving right now and I’m sure it will get itself sorted out.

“It was a crazy period in terms of ins and outs at Chelsea in the summer and I had conversations with the manager and he expressed that he liked me as a player and I was in his plans and I was really happy with that.”

Even Pochettino has come to his defence in a bid to keep him at SW6, but the Chelsea boss did admit it is the club’s decision and not his as to whether the England international stays or not. He said: “That is between the club and the player.

“I don’t need to talk too much because it is not my decision. He is in the starting eleven in nearly all the games and is one of the captains. For me, he is the type of player that the club needs to have.

“He’s important because of his Chelsea values. He came from the academy and knows the identity of the club and he is very committed. You can see on the pitch how he runs, plays, and fights. He gives everything and he is a really important player. All coaching staff want this type of player in their team.”

The 23-year-old captained the Blues for the 14th time in all competitions this season on Saturday afternoon in the 3-2 win over Luton Town at Kenilworth Road, with Pochettino’s men having lost just three of the 12 league matches he’s worn the armband for. However, it’s not only in interviews where Gallagher has seemingly highlighted his desire to stay with the club.

In a post on Instagram, Gallagher shared photos of him and his teammates in both their wins over Crystal Palace and Luton over the past week, including one of him and former Blues defender Marc Guehi with whom the midfielder has played growing up at Chelsea as well as at Palace and Swansea while on loan

The caption read: “Great way to end the year with two wins! To captain alongside Marc [Guehi] was special as we’ve come a long way together. Thank you for all the support this year, see you all in 2024! [Hands raised emoji, blue heart emoji].”

The ‘see you in 2024’ alongside the blue heart could be construed as a major hint that Gallagher is at Stamford Bridge to stay. Now it is up to club and player to come to an agreement – or disagreement – on the star before anything happens in January.
