Jamie Carragher mentions a tough team he wants Man City to face in the Champions League quarter-finals
The team Jamie Carragher really wants Man City to play in the quarterfinals of the Champions League is named.
To increase Liverpool’s chances of winning the Premier League, Jamie Carragher wants to make Manchester City’s Champions League run as challenging as possible.
There are still many clubs that have a chance to win the trophy in May as the campaign’s business end draws near.
Although Tottenham and Aston Villa are still in the hunt for the top spot, City, Liverpool, and Arsenal are leading the way.
The Merseyside outfit currently lead the way on 51 points but City and Arsenal are hot on their heals with 49 points each. It has the makings for an incredibly dramatic title race.
Liverpool are doubly desperate to win it as iconic manager Jurgen Klopp will be leaving the club in the summer after nine years in charge.
Eager to see his side claim the Premier League title for the second time, pundit Carragher wants City and Arsenal to draw each other in the Champions League in hope it will distract from their league campaigns.

Speaking to Gary Neville on Stick to Football, Carragher said: “I’d love Arsenal to get City in the quarters because I think Arsenal are one of the few teams who could knock City out.”
“Is that for Liverpool in the league?” Neville asked, to which Carragher said: “Yeah because when you play an English team in Europe everything ramps up in Europe.
“The press, everything. The league games before and afterwards, this game just becomes so big and that probably would help Liverpool. But we don’t want City to win it again, do we?”
Would it make a difference to City?
Carragher does have a point in that Arsenal could be a danger to City in knocking them out of Europe. The Gunners have beaten them once already this season and would represent a very tough draw.
Especially as Pep Guardiola’s side have struggled against Premier League sides in Europe before. They lost the 2021 final to Chelsea and have been eliminated by Liverpool and Tottenham in the past.
However, facing fellow English teams hasn’t had any impact on City’s domestic campaigns. The Blues won the title in each of the seasons when they faced and knocked out by teams from the Premier League.
When City’s iron grip on the trophy was loosened in 2020 by Liverpool, it was French side Lyon who knocked them out of Europe.
So though Carragher may hope for Arsenal and City to face off in Europe, there is little evidence that it will actually benefit Liverpool.
