Man United player Ratings as Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund received low marks for against Brentford, with just only two players marked high

Despite their 1-1 draw with Brentford, Manchester United managed to sneak out of London with an unfair point, but they still feel let down.

Manchester United got off to a good start in the game with some excellent attacking interplay, but their incapacity to maintain control over the ball eventually showed its ugly head again.

After dominating for thirty minutes, Brentford might have extended their lead over Erik ten Hag’s team to four goals before halftime with better finishing.

Out of the first forty-five shots, they managed to get only one on target, hitting the woodwork twice.

The second half saw no improvement as Brentford continued to create all the chances and play through United with ease.

The Bees saw a goal disallowed for off-side, rattled the crossbar again and had umpteen chances but somehow United took the lead through Mason Mount’s strike in the 96th minute

United thought they had won the game but there was more late drama as Kristoff Ajer equalised three minutes later.

Here’s how the players rated in another dreary game.

    Andre Onana – 7

An incredible double save in the 55th minute kept United in the game and made some other smart stops. Was helped by his woodwork on several occasions but was the only player to actually do his job well.

    Diogo Dalot – 5

Occasionally clumsy in his defending but did do well to put Yoane Wissa off a good chance at a corner and made an important challenge to stop the Bees from getting through on goal. Didn’t offer much quality going forward.

    Raphael Varane – 6

Dominant in the air against Brentford’s first-half bombardment and the only player actually able to clear the ball.

Some slack defending did put United in danger twice, though, as he was too casual in one challenge and was then completely sucked in to allow Ivan Toney to get clear through and hit the post.

Taken off at half-time with another injury.

    Victor Lindelof – 4

Saved Varane’s blushes with a crucial interception to deny Toney a tap-in after the Frenchman was easily beaten at the by-line.

But otherwise struggled against Toney and lucky not to have conceded when he was easily beaten by the striker and then gave the ball away for a great chance after the break. Pulled up with a muscle strain as United’s defensive injury woes continue.

    Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 5

Back at left-back again. Made some good challenges and got forward well but got caught out inside a couple of times as he continues to adapt to the position. Very important clearance in the last minute to secure the draw.

    Scott McTominay – 4

When McTominay isn’t contributing in attack he is a hindrance to the team as he doesn’t offer defensive resistance or a passing outlet. Yet, he was again involved in the goal.

Mainoo, who was often left exposed in the middle, was visibly frustrated with McTominay in the first half when he didn’t close down a loose ball, which Brentford won and then nearly scored off with a quick counter.

    Kobbie Mainoo – 6

Continues to be so classy and composed in possession. Always kept his head even when United were under immense pressure.

His tender age and frame were an issue at times with some weak challenges. Mainoo lost out on the ball in a couple of dangerous areas and was lucky not to be punished. Taken off with 10 remaining.

    Alejandro Garnacho – 2

None of the attacking verve he displayed against Liverpool, with his touch loose and sloppy. Ran into challenges instead of past them and had no impact. Lucky not to give away a penalty with a rash challenge. Hooked after 58 minutes.

    Bruno Fernandes – 5

An important challenge in the opening minutes and the only United player to create anything of note until the goal.

Fernandes was everywhere and tried hard but was given little to work with from his teammates.

    Marcus Rashford – 3

A lively start and was looking dangerous but was wasteful when he had the ball. Even that faded when United couldn’t get him, or any of the attackers, in the game.

Little urgency in the press or any defensive duties. Taken off with 10 remaining.

    Ramus Hojlund – 3

Still looks rusty after his injury layoff as his first touch was poor and he was unable to hold the ball up. An ineffective focal point who endured a difficult evening.

Hojlund did have United’s best chance until the goal but was denied by a great save.

    Substitutes

    Harry Maguire – 6

Came on at half-time. Strong in the air but nervous, like everyone else, when Brentford had the ball on the ground in the box and could do little to stem the onslaught.

Did do well to prevent Toney from scoring when he went through late on after Martinez’s mistake.

    Antony – 4

Went close with one shot and was involved in the goal. Was told off by Ten Hag for leaving space in behind when Brentford scored a goal that was ruled out for off-side.

    Lisandro Martinez – 3

The return of Martinez was a welcome sight but it wasn’t in the best circumstances as it came in place of yet another injured defender.

You can tell he’s been out of action for a while as he got caught out for the disallowed goal and gave the ball away with a terrible pass that Toney should have capitalised on.

    Mason Mount – 7

Replaced Rashford on the left with 10 minutes remaining. Made a couple of nice passes and scored what he thought was the winner with a lovely finish.

    Casemiro – 6

Came in for Mainoo with 10 to go and did little of note before sliding in Mount to score.
