Team News: Salah, Nunez dropped for Liverpool's clash with West Ham

Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez have been dropped from Liverpool‘s starting lineup for their Premier League clash with West Ham United at the London Stadium.

Both attackers were given the green light from the off in the midweek Merseyside derby, but neither covered themselves in glory as the Reds slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Everton’s home.

Jurgen Klopp has responded to that Goodison Park setback with five changes in the capital, two of which see Salah and Nunez take their places on the bench in another bold selection call from the departing boss.

Harvey Elliott will seemingly be taking up residence on the right wing in Salah’s absence, while Cody Gakpo – absent against Everton due to the birth of his child – will start up front ahead of Nunez.

Luis Diaz, the one attacker who did himself justice against Everton, unsurprisingly holds his place on the left with Diogo Jota injured, but Klopp has made another pair of alterations in midfield.

Alexis Mac Allister starts once more, but Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones have both been sacrificed to allow Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo to return to the Reds’ XI.

Jarrod Bowen back for West Ham

In addition, Jarell Quansah has been recalled to the backline over Ibrahima Konate, while there is also a place on the bench for Stefan Bajcetic, who has been building up his fitness with the Under-21s since recovering from a calf issue.

Meanwhile, West Ham boss David Moyes has made just one change to the side that were smashed 5-2 by Crystal Palace last weekend, but the hosts’ alteration is a significant one, as Jarrod Bowen is fit to return to the final third.

The England international missed the loss to the Eagles at Selhurst Park after his Europa League exploits against Bayer Leverkusen, but he has been given the thumbs-up to start the lunchtime kickoff and replaces James Ward-Prowse in the hosts’ XI.

Dinos Mavropanos has not made the cut, though, and with Nayef Aguerd also missing due to an ankle injury, Angelo Ogbonna continues alongside Kurt Zouma in the heart of defence.

Liverpool will go back above Manchester City into second place with victory at the London Stadium, while a win for West Ham would also lift them up one spot into seventh above Newcastle United.

West Ham United: Areola; Coufal, Zouma, Ogbonna, Emerson; Alvarez, Soucek; Bowen, Paqueta, Kudus; Antonio
Subs: Fabianski, Cresswell, Ings, Johnson, Cornet, Ward-Prowse, Phillips, Mubama, Casey

Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Quansah, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Endo, Mac Allister; Elliott, Gakpo, Diaz
Subs: Kelleher, Gomez, Szoboszlai, Nunez, Salah, Konate, Jones, Tsimikas, Bajcetic
