Manchester United fans are feeling aggrieved this afternoon following VAR’s intervention which denied them an opening goal vs Fulham.

With fewer than 10 minutes on the clock, it appeared as though the Reds had gone 1-0 up in London when a free kick to the back stick was played across goal by Alejandro Garnacho and tapped in by Scott McTominay. However, VAR chose to check for an offside in the build-up.

Initially, it seemed as though the technology was checking to see if Garnacho was offside. But, instead the focus was pointed at Harry Maguire who was marginally in an offside position but did not seem to be interfering with play.

VAR decided the best course of action was to call referee John Brooks to the monitor to adjudge whether Maguire was interfering in play when the ball was crossed over. After a long wait, the officials decided to overturn the on-field decision, awarding a free kick to the hosts.

Unsurprisingly, this call has been met with anger and Erik ten Hag was seen fuming on the sidelines after Brooks confirmed his final decision. This sentiment was matched by United fans on X who made their feelings clear on both the call and VAR in general.
