Texas Women’s Basketball Earns Prestigious National Team of the Week Honor!
Texas Women’s Basketball Earns National Recognition After Dominant 3-0 Week
The Texas Longhorns women’s basketball team is making headlines after an incredible week on the court, earning U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) National Team of the Week honors. Texas secured three straight victories, including back-to-back wins over ranked opponents, proving they are a force to be reckoned with in the SEC.
Texas kicked off the week in dominant fashion, crushing No. 8 Maryland 89-51 in the Coretta Scott King Classic—the largest margin of victory over a top-10 opponent in program history. Returning home, the Longhorns battled No. 17 Tennessee, edging out an 80-76 win over the Lady Vols. The team then hit the road and secured a hard-fought 61-58 victory against Ole Miss on Sunday.
Star Players Shine
The Longhorns’ success was fueled by Taylor Jones and Madison Booker, both of whom earned national recognition for their standout performances.
- Taylor Jones was named SEC Player of the Week after delivering 21 points and 14 rebounds in the win over Tennessee. She continued her dominance against Ole Miss, putting up 24 points, six rebounds, and three blocks.
- Madison Booker earned Naismith Trophy Player of the Week honors after leading Texas with 28 points against Maryland, followed by 26 points in the victory over Tennessee. Against Ole Miss, she recorded a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks.
Historic Start Under Vic Schaefer
With a 20-2 record, Texas is off to its best start since the 2015-16 season. Head coach Vic Schaefer continues to build a powerhouse, marking his 12th consecutive season with 20 or more wins.
