The Boston Red Sox have been seeking a significant offensive addition this offseason, and with Spring Training approaching, they may accomplish that through a trade.

According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, the Red Sox have reportedly been in contact with the St. Louis Cardinals regarding eight-time All-Star Nolan Arenado. This potential move could also have major ripple effects across Major League Baseball, particularly in relation to Alex Bregman’s impending free agency.

While Arenado’s production has slightly dipped over the past two seasons, his consistency makes him an ideal fit for Boston’s lineup. Additionally, Fenway Park’s hitter-friendly dimensions could benefit the right-handed slugger.

Boston has a deep farm system and may be willing to part with prospects, as noted by Chaim Bloom in Morosi’s report. Arenado has already shown his ability to thrive in an offensive-friendly environment, leading the league in home runs three times and posting a career .857 OPS.

Given the recent instability in St. Louis, Arenado is exactly the kind of impact player the Red Sox should pursue if they are serious about contending. However, with a full no-trade clause, the 33-year-old—who has 341 career home runs—must approve any deal.

Notably, he has already informed the Cardinals that he would consider waiving his no-trade clause if the situation aligns with his preferences.
