The New York Mets made a major splash this offseason by signing Juan Soto and Pete Alonso, along with adding Frankie Montas and Clay Holmes to their rotation. However, their pitching staff still has some uncertainties.
The Mets’ rotation is set to include Sean Manaea, Kodai Senga, Montas, David Peterson, Holmes, and Tylor Megill. While there is potential for success, the absence of José Quintana, who was reliable for the Mets over the past two seasons, is noticeable.
Quintana, who remains unsigned, is predicted by Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter to rejoin his former team, the Chicago White Sox. Reuter noted that despite a solid 10-10 record with a 3.75 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 170.1 innings last season, Quintana has yet to find a new home.

The 36-year-old spent the first part of his career with the White Sox and may return to finish out his MLB journey. Quintana is expected to secure a two-year, $16 million deal. In his last two years with the Mets, he made 44 starts with a 3.70 ERA.
If the Mets don’t add another starter, they may be relying on Holmes, who hasn’t started since his rookie year, to fill a rotation spot. If that experiment fails, adding a dependable arm like Quintana could help solidify the rotation. Quintana enters his 14th season with a career 3.74 ERA.
