Four-time National League All-Star. Pete Alonso is among the top remaining MLB free agents. Alonso, who has spent his entire six-year career with the New York Mets, just finished a season in which he appeared in all 162 games and hit 34 home runs and 88 RBI. Alonso’s 2024 production was slightly lower than his previous two campaigns. Alonso hit 40 home runs and drove in a league-leading 131 runs in 2022, then added 46 home runs and 118 RBI the following season. With a career.854 OPS, the 30-year-old Alonso is a strong hitter who may aid a team that needs a first baseman or designated hitter.
As MLB free players leave the market and Spring Training approaches, Alonso’s pool of suitors has shrunk. Several reports have stated that the Toronto Blue Jays and Mets are the only teams seeking the two-time Home Run Derby champion, and a more recent story has provided an update on this. According to MLB insider Hector Gomez, Toronto has offered Alonso a three-year contract. “SOURCE: The #BlueJays have extended offers to both Pete Alonso (3 years) and Alex Bregman (6 years). “The Jays are in play to land either of them,” Gomez said on X.

Alonso reportedly declined a three-year, $70 million contract from New York (via SNY’s Andy Martino). According to the same report, Toronto’s three-year offer to Alonso is unlikely to exceed that amount, but the team has reportedly opted to offer the slugger a three-year contract. Toronto has been active this offseason, most recently signing three-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer (per ESPN’s Jeff Passan).
