The Boston Red Sox are in the market for a third baseman, with their options likely narrowing down to Alex Bregman or Nolan Arenado.
If Boston aims to contend for a World Series in 2025—which should always be the goal—acquiring one of these two stars would be a significant step forward.
There are several factors to consider when comparing Bregman and Arenado. Arenado has three years remaining on his current contract, making him a more defined commitment. Unless the Red Sox can secure Bregman on a short-term deal, Arenado might be the preferable option.
However, trading for the Cardinals’ third baseman would require Boston to part with at least one prospect. According to John Denton of MLB.com, St. Louis has expressed interest in Blaze Jordan, a former highly regarded Red Sox prospect.

“One player the Cardinals have discussed as a potential return for Arenado, per a source, is slugging first baseman Blaze Jordan, the No. 22 prospect in the Red Sox’s system,” Denton reported.
Once considered one of the nation’s top high school talents, Jordan has yet to fully meet expectations at the professional level. His raw talent is undeniable, but his power numbers haven’t quite lived up to early projections, with just 43 home runs in 1,397 at-bats.
Still, at only 22 years old, Jordan has the potential to develop into an elite hitter. If he’s all it would take to land Arenado, it would be a deal worth serious consideration for the Red Sox.
