With Opening Day approaching, the Red Sox are in a strong position roster-wise, but adding extra depth is always beneficial.

That mindset appears to be driving Craig Breslow and the front office as they navigate the final weeks of spring training.

According to MassLive’s Sean McAdam, Boston has expressed interest in acquiring additional outfield depth, particularly a right-handed hitter.

While not an urgent need, such a move would provide insurance for Wilyer Abreu, who may not be ready for Opening Day due to a gastrointestinal issue.

Additionally, Kristian Campbell has yet to play right field, and top prospect Roman Anthony was recently sidelined by an illness that spread through the clubhouse.

Bringing in another outfielder could help the Red Sox manage these challenges. However, if no deal materializes, newcomer Trayce Thompson, who has put together an impressive spring, could serve as an early-season depth option.
