Breaking News: Understand Red Sox Ace Garrett Crochet Sign Five-Year Extension

The Boston Red Sox have given their fans plenty to be excited about this offseason by making key moves to address their biggest needs.
One of their most significant transactions was trading multiple top prospects to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for ace Garrett Crochet, who is coming off his best professional season.
Crochet brings exactly what Boston needed—a hard-throwing lefty who can hit 100 MPH with ease and features a devastating sweeper.
However, his contract situation presents some challenges, as he has two years remaining on his current deal. Many are pushing for an extension sooner rather than later. According to Tim Britton of The Athletic, both sides “need to get a deal done now.” Britton also projected that Crochet could land a five-year, $110 million contract.
In 2024, Crochet struck out 209 batters over 146 innings, posting a 3.58 ERA and earning his first career All-Star selection. At 25 years old, he may also be motivated to secure a long-term deal, especially after overcoming injuries earlier in his career—having missed the entire 2022 season. This injury history could make Boston’s front office somewhat cautious about committing to an extended contract.
With the 2025 season approaching, the Red Sox have already shown their commitment to competing now and in the future, as evidenced by their recent semi long-term signing of third baseman Alex Bregman.
