Hailey Bieber Breaks Her Silence: On the Pain of Being ‘Pitted Against’ Selena Gomez — “It’s Awful,” She Says, Demanding an End to Toxic Narratives
Hailey Bieber is finally calling it what it is — a hurtful, manufactured feud she never asked for. In a recent interview on the Bloomberg Originals series The Circuit with Emily Chang, she addressed the recurring narrative that she and Selena Gomez have been locked in a rivalry simply because of their shared history with Justin Bieber.
“I don’t think that this is about me, Hailey Bieber, and Selena Gomez — this is not about this pitting between two women and division between two women,” Hailey said candidly. “It’s about the vile, disgusting hatred that can come from completely made‑up and twisted and perpetuated narratives. That can be really dangerous.”
She pushed back against the “Team This Person vs. Team That Person” mentality, saying she’s “not about that.” She’s frustrated that she repeatedly has to say there is no issue, no feud, and that the constant comparisons are unfair and hurtful.
Hailey also sees a larger lesson in this: that these feuds speak to deeper problems in how society frames women’s narratives. Instead of fueling division, she wants to build bridges. “I want to be able to bring people together. I think that was a really important moment… that you can bring people together and it doesn’t have to be about this divisive nature,” she said.
Selena Gomez even publicly addressed the hate, urging fans to stop harassing Hailey and reminding everyone that no one should have to endure bullying or threats.
For Hailey, this isn’t just about defending her own name — it’s about demanding more thoughtful treatment, especially toward women, in public discourse. And she’s making clear she won’t stay silent while being dragged into a drama she says was built on misunderstanding and toxicity.
