Amanda Platell Unleashes Blistering Attack on Meghan Markle, Calling Her Latest Netflix Move a ‘Monumental Own Goal’ That Only She Could Make — Is the Duchess in Over Her Head?

Meghan Markle is once again in the crosshairs of British media firebrand Amanda Platell, who has launched one of her most scathing attacks to date. In her latest column, Platell accused the Duchess of Sussex of committing a “monumental own goal” following reports that her and Prince Harry’s multi-million-dollar Netflix deal has been significantly downsized. Platell did not hold back, saying it was the kind of blunder “only Meghan is capable of making.”

The criticism centers around the apparent unraveling of Meghan and Harry’s once-lucrative partnership with the streaming giant. Initially valued at around $100 million, the deal was heralded as a new chapter for the couple after their high-profile exit from royal life. However, after underwhelming output and public backlash over their content — including the polarizing Harry & Meghan docuseries — insiders claim Netflix has quietly reduced its commitments, demanding more substance and fewer “vanity projects.”

According to reports cited by Platell, Meghan allegedly tried to compare her and Harry’s media ambitions with that of Barack and Michelle Obama — a move the columnist ridiculed as “delusional” and a key example of the duchess’s misreading of her own brand power. “You can’t fake gravitas,” Platell wrote, noting that the Obamas had years of political and social capital, while Meghan and Harry have largely relied on their royal fallout to fuel attention.

Platell’s choice of the phrase “own goal” — a sports term meaning an accidental score against one’s own team — implies that Meghan’s latest moves have only hurt her own reputation. “This isn’t just a PR misstep,” she argued. “It’s a monumental act of self-sabotage, the likes of which only Meghan could orchestrate.”

While Platell’s column reflects a broader trend in British tabloid criticism toward the Sussexes, particularly Meghan, it also touches on real concerns being voiced within the entertainment industry. Several media analysts have questioned the long-term value of the couple’s Netflix deal, especially as they have yet to deliver major commercial or critical hits. Their animated series Pearl was canceled before release, and other projects are reportedly stuck in development limbo.

On the other hand, supporters of Meghan argue that the criticism is rooted more in personal bias than objective analysis. They point out that the Harry & Meghan docuseries performed strongly in initial viewership numbers, and that Meghan’s new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, shows entrepreneurial promise.

Still, the Netflix retreat — if confirmed — marks a significant shift in the Sussexes’ post-royal strategy. It raises fresh questions about whether they can sustain their media empire without relying on royal drama as the main selling point.

As the dust settles, Meghan’s next move will be closely watched. Will she rebrand and rebuild, or has she — as Platell claims — stumbled so badly that recovery may be out of reach?

One thing is certain: in the ever-divisive world of royal commentary, Amanda Platell’s latest broadside ensures Meghan Markle remains at the center of the storm.
