Caitlin Clark Just Added Another Historic Chapter to Her WNBA Story
The Indiana Fever star became the highest-scoring point guard in a single WNBA season, reaching 862 points during a 25-point performance against the Washington Mystics.
The milestone arrived hours after Minnesota Lynx rookie Olivia Miles surpassed Clark’s rookie scoring record of 769 points, set in 2024. Miles finished with 21 points in the Lynx’s 101-89 win over the Connecticut Sun, pushing her season total to 790.
Clark’s response came in a different category entirely. Her 862 points represent the most ever by a point guard in a single WNBA season, moving her beyond comparisons with her own rookie year and into the league’s broader record book.
The efficiency is what stands out most. Clark reached 862 points in 38 games, while her previous rookie total of 769 came across 40 appearances. She’s averaging 22.7 points per game while shooting 45.1 percent from the field.
A Season of Unprecedented Production
This season, Clark has established herself as the only player in the WNBA to rank in the top three in both scoring (22.7 points per game) and assists (8.4 per game). She’s piloting a historically efficient Fever offense that is averaging 96.7 points per game and 117.8 points per 100 possessions — both tracking as WNBA records.
On August 23 against the Chicago Sky, Clark scored 37 points with a career-high eight 3-pointers and 10 assists. It marked her fifth career game with at least 30 points and 10 assists, a total that surpasses what every other player in WNBA history has combined to achieve.
She reached 1,600 career points on August 11 against the New York Liberty in just 82 games, becoming the fastest player in WNBA history to accumulate at least 1,600 points, 400 rebounds and 600 assists. The previous record was held by Sabrina Ionescu, who needed 102 games.
The Partnership with Kelsey Mitchell
Clark’s individual brilliance has been amplified by her partnership with Kelsey Mitchell, who recently set the WNBA single-season scoring record with 1,034 points, surpassing A’ja Wilson’s 1,021 from 2024.
The duo extended their own WNBA record with 20 games in which each player scored at least 20 points in a single season. Against Toronto on September 18, Mitchell scored 33 and Clark added 28 points with 14 assists — their latest display of what the Fever describe as “no better perimeter duo in the history of the league”.
The Jordan Parallels
The comparisons to Michael Jordan extend beyond statistics.
In 2024, Clark signed a multiyear deal with Wilson, making her the first basketball player since Jordan in the 1980s to receive a signature basketball line as a rookie. She later signed with Nike and became the first WNBA player to receive a signature shoe in her rookie season — a list previously limited to names like Jordan and LeBron James.
On the court, Clark’s statistical profile has drawn comparisons to some of the game’s most exclusive company. Her ability to generate elite scoring and playmaking simultaneously places her in territory occupied by few players in basketball history, Jordan among them.
