Alejandro Garnacho picks out and gives a five-word message to the struggling Manchester United player who outperformed himself against Liverpool
It did indeed occur. Manchester United defeated Liverpool 4-3 to go to the FA Cup semifinals.
For Red Devils supporters, it was a memorable evening that will go down in history as one of the greatest cup matches to ever take place at Old Trafford.
Fans were ecstatic after Amad Diallo’s thrilling 120th-minute winner, which also guaranteed Erik ten Hag a spot in the silverware this season.
Following the match, several Manchester United players posted on social media to share their elation at winning. One of these was Alejandro Garnacho, who singled out one struggling United star who shone brighter than ever against Liverpool.
Alejandro Garnacho sends message to Antony
Antony has had it hard for Manchester United this season, but against Liverpool – he was simply sensational.
He was brought on in the 71st minute, and eventually scored the equaliser which sent the Red Devils into extra time.
Antony then impressed throughout the rest of the game, even putting in a shift at left-back! Luke Shaw‘s long-term successor? We don’t think so yet.
For a man that’s had a tough season, he showed great character. Garnacho agreed with us, taking to his Instagram story to send the following message: “You deserved this and more.”
Is there a future at Manchester United for Antony?
Most Manchester United fans have written Antony off around Carrington, and we can’t blame them. He’s been so off the ball, particularly in the 23/24 campaign.
However, the £200,000 p/w man could still come good. He is still only 24-years-old. The way we see it, we can’t recuperate anywhere near the £85m United paid for Antony, so it’s worth keeping him around for a while.
Whether that’s Sir Jim Ratcliffe‘s thoughts is a different story. All will be revealed in the summer.
