Sky Sports pundit cautions Rasmus Hojlund not to call Chelsea a £88.5m failure

New Manchester United signing Rasmus Hojlund has received rave reviews following his promising debut against Arsenal.

Rasmus Hojlund made an impressive debut for Manchester United over the weekend. The first strong impression was that he was praised by Gary Neville, praised in the Match of the Day, and MUTV analysts were equally delighted with what they saw.

It was an impressive 25 minutes for the Dane, who is said to have also been awarded a penalty.

One person who was not carried away is former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson, who thinks first impressions can be deceiving. Merson warns Hojlund

Paul Merson told Sky Sports he is concerned Hojlund could still follow the same path as Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk.

Mudryk impressed on his Chelsea debut and then faded, having not scored a Premier League goal since joining Stamford Bridge for £88.5m in January.

    meerson said:
“Rasmus Hojlund looks good – a few. But it lasted for 20 minutes.

“I met Mykhailo Mudryk for 20 minutes in Liverpool in January and haven’t seen him since.”

Rasmus Hojlund is the real man

It should help Rasmus Hojlund score a quick goal or two and take some of the pressure off, but the striker shouldn’t be too worried, the goal will come as he plays more games. Even without a goal, the Danish forward’s all-round play raised Manchester United’s attacking threat when he came on, with his direct run and hold of the ball adding extras. elements into the lineup that previously simply didn’t exist.

Even without the goals, the Danish striker’s all-round game lifted Manchester United’s attacking threat when he came on, with his direct running and hold-up play adding elements to the team which simply were not there before. There will be some doubters after his £64 million move, questioning whether he can live up to that value. Liverpool face an anxious 24-hour wait after claiming Mo Salah will soon be flown out for a medical

Saudi Pro League champions Al-Ittihad are increasingly confident of signing Egypt international Mohamed Salah from Liverpool before the transfer window closes.

A Saudi TV channel has announced that Mohamed Salah will complete his medical at Al-Ittihad following Liverpool’s game against Newcastle on Sunday.

Salah, 31, will become one of Saudi Arabia’s highest-paid players if he joins Al-Ittihad in the coming days. The Saudi Pro League has attracted Sadio Mané, Karim Benzema, Neymar, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho this summer.

Mirror Football understands that Liverpool are determined to keep Salah, despite rumors Al-Ittihad made a €100m (£85.8m) offer. Salah’s agent Ramy Abbas Issa has also confirmed that his client signed up with Jurgen Klopp earlier this month. However, new rumors have surfaced since the agent’s statement. It has been suggested that Salah is currently considering a move to Al-Ittihad and a decision will be made on Monday on whether he will leave Merseyside. This transfer story should not continue.

That is according to Sport Italia, with speculation growing in the Middle East. As Egypt captain, Salah will immediately become one of Saudi Arabia’s most popular players if he leaves Merseyside for Jeddah. Saudi channel KSA Sports TV even claimed that Salah’s final game for Liverpool will be against Newcastle on Sunday in the Premier League at St James’ Park. It is believed he will travel to Dubai after the game for a medical check-up.

The Saudi Arabia transfer window won’t close until September 20, but a decision is unlikely to come after the Premier League deadline on Friday. The big question is whether Liverpool can keep their cool and convince Salah to stay.

Speaking to Sky Sports on Friday, Klopp insisted Salah was “100% committed” to his team. Liverpool manager says:
“There’s a lot going on around us but that’s all. There’s speculation and I think that’s completely normal at the moment.”

Klopp admitted it would be a “disaster” if Salah left Liverpool after Friday when the Premier League market is closed. That is why all parties want this matter resolved immediately, as it gives the Red Devils a few days to find a replacement should Salah leave.

Losing Salah would be a huge blow to Liverpool’s campaign. The experienced striker has scored 187 goals in 307 games since joining Roma in the summer of 2017 and won seven trophies, including the Premier League and Champions League. Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler, who currently works as a coach in Saudi Arabia, revealed the extent of Salah’s popularity on his Mirror Football column. “In Saudi Arabia, I can tell you that Mo Salah’s story is even more remarkable than in the UK,” he wrote.

    Fowler added:
“Of course, Egypt borders Saudi Arabia and the Red Sea border is not far from Jeddah, where Al-Ittihad is based. From my own observations, I can tell you that Mo is the biggest star in the whole universe. this region.”

Jurgen Klopp reaction shows that Liverpool may have finally found true Steven Gerrard heir

Going back memory lane in 2015, just months before Jürgen Klopp was appointed as successor to Brendan Rodgers at Anfield, arguably Liverpool’s greatest-ever player decided to call time on his Reds career. After delivering a whole host of trophies to Merseyside from the Champions League to the FA Cup to the UEFA Cup and virtually everything in between, Steven Gerrard decided to move to America.

The indomitable Liverpool legend joined LA Galaxy in his attempts to experience a new competition and lifestyle, with his famous number eight jersey remaining vacant until the summer of 2018. The shirt was eventually presented to Naby Keïta, who was hyped as a truly unique talent by those who had scouted him extensively in Germany and Austria.

Indeed, Michael Edwards, who was sporting director at the time, even agreed a deal to sign him one year in advance of his arrival, purely as a means of getting ahead of the competition for his signature. The Guinean international seemed to have it all, but although he performed to a reasonable standard, he failed to live up to the lofty expectation on his shoulders.

The African midfielder struggled to get on the pitch most of all — having picked up a countless number of injuries during his time on English shores — but even when he was involved, it is reasonable to suggest that he never came close to impacting proceedings like the man before him.

Gerrard was everything great about Liverpool during his time at the club. He was one of the most dynamic performers to ever grace the Anfield turf, having developed a reputation for stepping up in big moments while others shrunk as a consequence of the pressure surrounding them.

The Scouse midfielder could do it all. He scored goals, created chances, tackled opponents, showcased his elaborate passing range, led by example and delivered his remarkable standard every single week. He was as consistent as it gets. Even José Mourinho, who won numerous Premier League titles with Chelsea, tried to sign him three times, having once labeled him as ‘one of his favorite enemies’ in a press conference.

Liverpool will never get another player who was quite as special as Gerrard, but it seems his number eight shirt is now in very good hands.

As Keïta departed on a free transfer to the Bundesliga this summer — joining Werder Bremen — Liverpool quickly moved to sign a replacement and ended up landing the signature of Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig. The captain of Hungary arrived for a transfer fee of $76m (£60m/€70m).

It is still very early days in his Reds career, but he has now played two matches in the Premier League, and he made his Anfield debut on Saturday afternoon. He was presented with the Man of the Match award after the bout, having delivered a very complete performance with the heavy number eight shirt on his back.

Throughout the clash, Szoboszlai was industrious, energetic and powerful, but while also showcasing a healthy degree of elegance and technical quality when in possession of the ball. He is a truly complete talent, with the 22-year-old almost depicting shades of Gerrard at times.

He covered more distance than anybody else on the pitch against Bournemouth over the weekend, while also misplacing just five of his 71 passes and completing three dribbles, more than any other player. The imposing midfielder was a keen carrier of the ball throughout the clash, clearly demonstrating his physical edge in the process.

“We had to hold him back a little bit because he was the only one who has power for more,” said Klopp after the game, with Szoboszlai forming part of a midfield two towards the end of the match after Alexis Mac Allister was controversially sent off. Indeed, Gerrard also played as part of a two during his time at Liverpool, while also being deployed as a number 10 and as a number six for spells during his career.

Szoboszlai has that same degree of versatility attached to his game, and he’s still got plenty of room to evolve. It is simply too early to assess the success of his transfer, but he is already looking like a steal. The Hungarian international has big boots to fill over the next few years but based on his start to life on English shores, he’s going to be just fine, and that is probably an understatement.
