Barcelona push for Dembele’s contract extension

Bacelona have started extending Ousmane Dembélé’s contract. A few weeks ago, the first meeting took place between his agent, Moussa Sissoko, and the gurus of the Barcelona transfer market: Mateu Alemany and Jordi Cruyff. It was a first meeting in which figures were not discussed, but in which both sides clarified their intentions.

First meeting

Barcelona want the player’s renewal. Thus, the officials communicated it to the representative, expressing that they were very satisfied with the performances he had shown throughout the season and his commitment to the club. For his part, the player also expressed a desire to continue. He feels very comfortable in Barcelona and in the team. He also benefits from the confidence of Xavi, who has always supported him since his arrival on the bench.

Reduction of the termination clause

There is a problem at the contractual level and it is the reduction of the release clause of the French. Currently, his freedom costs €100m, but the amount drops to €50 in June and July. A good opportunity for other clubs to sign him as it would come at a market price below the player’s value. However, the player does not wish to use this clause and extends it. He said it through Sissoko and in society they know that Dembele keeps his word.

Continuity supply

This was the content of the first meeting. Barcelona have agreed to send them a formal offer shortly. The club offers him a long contract. They want a long-term extension, so they want him to stay until 2028. Despite the problems in the early years, he is now a very valuable player that Xavi and the club are counting on for the future.

Both parties want to renew

Players’ agents must now consider this proposal. The club would like to close it before the departure of Mateu Alemany, which will take place on June 30. A negotiation process is currently underway, but everything indicates that an agreement will be reached since both parties share the same objective.

In this case, the wage bill is not an issue as the Frenchman’s salary for the next season is already taken into account. He has one year left on his contract and for the 24/25 season the club is not as limited as for the following season.
