Manchester United have seemingly upped their game in the summer transfer window, as they edge closer to agreeing a deal for another signing.

Saturday saw the Red Devils find the breakthrough in their talks with Atalanta for the signing of Rasmus Hojlund in a deal that could potentially cost them north of £90m in fixed payments, variables, and wages.

Less than 24 hours later, it has emerged that Erik ten Hag is set to be handed another quality addition to his ranks.

According to a story covered by Tom Hopkinson, chief sports reporter for The Mirror, today (news image provided below), United “will sign” Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina. The Premier League side are closing in on an agreement worth £26m for Morocco’s World Cup hero, who is in the last year of his contract in Florence.

Known as “The Gladiator” in Italian football, Amrabat has caught the eyes of Ten Hag, who wants to take pressure off ageing Casemiro by bringing another defensive midfielder to Carrington.

The 26-year-old would not only add physicality to United’s midfield, akin to the former Real Madrid legend, but also raise the technical floor of the engine with his press-resistant qualities in possession.

With his performance in Qatar, where he was the best defensive midfielder of the tournament, Amrabat also showed he’s not afraid of a big stage.

More importantly, the Dutch coach is placing his trust in a player who he has already worked with him in the past. The two collaborated in the Netherlands at FC Utrecht before going their separate ways in 2017.

Whether Man United wait to formalise Hojlund’s signing and secure some funds through sales before finalising the £26m agreement with Fiorentina remains to be seen.
