Brentford vs Liverpool as both team could be without key players

Liverpool and Brentford will be without several key players for today’s Premier League fixture.

The Reds go to the Gtech Community Stadium to face the Bees looking to retain their spot at the top of the league standings. Liverpool are currently two points clear of Manchester City and Arsenal, although City do have a game in hand over the Reds.

Jurgen Klopp’s side claimed a 3-1 win over Burnley in their last fixture and will be determined to get three points on the road against Brentford this weekend. Just like Liverpool, Brentford will also be forced to deal with a lengthy injury list.

Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dominik Szoboszlai, Thiago Alcantara, Joel Matip, Stefan Bajcetic and Ben Doak are all unavailable for the Reds. Brentford boss Thomas Frank will also have some members of his squad unavailable for the visit of Liverpool today.

    Frank Onyeka

Midfielder Frank Onyeka has been unavailable for Brentford due to being on international duty with Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Onyeka played in the final against the Ivory Coast last week and has since returned to the UK to reunite with his Brentford teammates.

    Yoane Wissa

Forward Yoane Wissa has also been unavailable due to being on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Wissa was part of the DR Congo squad that reached the semi-final of the tournament and has now rejoined the Brentford squad with the expectation of being available to face Liverpool.

    Status: Available

    Josh Dasilva

Midfielder Josh Dasvila faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a knee injury he sustained in training earlier this month.

No exact timeframe has been placed on when Dasilva will return to the pitch, but he will not be available to face Liverpool.

    Status: Unavailable

    Rico Henry

Defender Rico Henry is another long-term absentee for Brentford, having been on the sidelines since September with a knee injury.

Henry has been continuing his recovery for the last few months, but is not expected to return to the matchday squad anytime soon and is not available to face the Reds.

    Status: Unavailable

    Aaron Hickey

Defender Aaron Hickey has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since October.

Hickey was originally expected to return to action sometime this month but suffered a setback in his recovery and currently remains on the sidelines.

    Status: Unavailable

    Bryan Mbeumo

Forward Bryan Mbeumo has been sidelined with an ankle injury he sustained in December which required surgery.

Mbeumo was expected to be sidelined for around 12 weeks and is still in the process of recovering from the injury, meaning he will not be part of the Bees squad to face Liverpool.

    Status: Unavailable

    Kevin Schade

Forward Kevin Schade has been sidelined for several months with an adductor injury he sustained last August.

Schade underwent surgery on the injury and has gradually been building up his recovery, but will not be involved in the Brentford squad to feature against Liverpool.

    Status: Unavailable
