Budget Stretch as Man Utd ‘find agreement’ with £26m Serie A star
It is clear that Man Utd have settled terms with Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat with the Red Devils now looking to reach an agreement on a fee, according to reports.
Man Utd boss is looking to stretch his reported £120m budget for new players with around £60m of that put aside for the possible arrival of Mason Mount from Chelsea.
The Man Utd board have agreed to allow Ten Hag to make use any funds raised via sales to be put straight back into his budget with information as many as 13 squad players are up for sale.
Ten Hag and his transfer team could have to come up with concrete solutions to better their squad with a new striker and goalkeeper their top priorities.
Another option, Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana is becoming too expensive, while they are trying to bid for a second time for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund.
Italian outlet La Nazione (via Sport Witness) have claimed that Man Utd are ‘really interested’ in Amrabat and insist the Premier League side have ‘gone into an economic agreement’ with the Morocco international.
Man Utd boss, Ten Hag managed the Fiorentina midfielder between 2015 and 2017 at Dutch club FC Utrecht that is ‘not a negligible aspect’ to aid a potential transfer.
The Italian club are hoping for at least €30m (£26m) from Man Utd if they want a deal to pull through this summer despite the defensive midfielder only having a year left on his contract.
Nordin, his brother, recently revealed that Amrabat – who impressed everyone with his performances at the winter World Cup in Qatar – has “charmed” Man Utd boss Ten Hag.
“He is doing okey at Fiorentina. You are not going to trade Italy for the middle bracket of the EPL,” the Fiorentina midfielder’s brother said last month.
“My brother is 26 years old; he wants to get to the top. Of course, you never know, it (Saudi Arabia) will be a huge competition when you see which names are going. But my brother now has the intention to play in the top club, preferably in Spain or England, I think.
“I think in January (United showed strong interest). But Ten Hag is now looking for a striker, he wants that first. From there we will see what is possible.
“But I know that Ten Hag is charmed by my brother’s performance, he broke through under him. And they have a good relationship presently, so who knows.”
