Manchester City are set to lose their highly-rated Academy midfield talent Josh Adam on a free transfer this summer, as clubs from across Europe circle for his signature.

The Scottish youth international first made the switch to the City Football Academy from Scottish Premier League giants Celtic in 2020 and has impressed coaching staff across age groups in various levels of the club’s youth system.

Such is the highly-rated nature of Josh Adam’s game that the versatile midfielder has often been asked to train with Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad, and joined the Manchester City senior side as recently as Thursday ahead of the meeting with Wolves.

However, having spent the last two season’s operating under Brian Barry-Murphy within Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad, Adam is now keen to take the leap into regular senior football, and as such moving away from the Etihad Stadium.

As per the information of Jack Gaughan, writing in the latest edition of MailSport’s Man City Notebook this week, Josh Adam is set to leave Manchester City on a free transfer at the end of the ongoing season.

It is stated that the 20-year-old midfielder wants to ‘challenge himself in the senior game’, and there is reportedly early interest from clubs in both the Bundesliga and Belgian Pro League, with Adam himself said to be ‘enthused’ at the prospect of moving out onto the continent.

Josh Adam’s father has already confirmed a move away from Manchester City, after he penned a heartfelt message on his personal social media channel at the back end of last month.

Posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, Allan Adam stated, “Good luck today son in your last game for Man City. Been a quick four years.”

Elsewhere and Manchester City’s hunt for the next best talent in the youth football scene continues, as they expect to welcome senior Brazil international winger Savio to the Etihad Stadium this summer from Troyes and an excellent loan spell with Girona.

Pep Guardiola calls 20-year-old Man City youngster up to first-team training ahead of Wolves clash
    Thu 2 May 2024 11:00

Pep Guardiola has called up a certain Manchester City youngster to first-team training ahead of his side’s clash against Wolves.

Ultimately, for a young player to be involved in training with City’s senior team must be an enthralling experience for several reasons.

Firstly, to have been given a chance to train in and amongst the first-team must be a matter of pride for a young prospect, as Manchester City are one of the biggest clubs in the entirety of football.

To add to that, learning first-hand from Pep Guardiola could be as eye-opening an experience as a youngster can muster in their career.

The Catalan boss has managed to reinvent players in their mid to late twenties, such as Fabian Delph and John Stones to name a few.

As a result, Guardiola has the ability to enlighten players about the game in a way few managers can.

20-year-old City youngster spotted in training ahead of Wolves clash
Any young player would perhaps be stunned by how the £378,846-a-week man views the game as well as how he sets his side up in training.

In addition, training with such a star-studded group of players must be an honour for any youngster.

But it is key for the player in question not to be starstruck at all times.

Instead, the opportunity in place is to show whether they are ready to play first-team football.

Even so, just by watching players like Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland and Ruben Dias to name a few, perhaps even other superstars in world football can learn so much.

From their training regimes to watching them play up close.

As Manchester City prepare to face Wolves on Saturday, Josh Adam was spotted on the club’s official website as a part of the winning team in training.

The 20-year-old was in the same team as the likes of Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, John Stones, Jeremy Doku, Nathan Ake, Mateo Kovacic, Josko Gvardiol, Rico Lewis, Nico O’Reilly and Scott Carson.

Josh Adam certainly must have learned a lot from especially the senior players in his team, as Manchester City seemed hard at work ahead of their contest against Wolves.

The City youngster, 20 is a midfielder by trade, who is known for his technical ability and creativity.

Adam is an advanced midfielder, who was signed by the club from Celtic in 2020.

Best time for Josh Adam to be a part of first-team training
It is one thing to train with the first-team during the first couple of months.

However, to watch, train and play alongside the Manchester City players when they are gearing up for a game that could decide their title fate against Wolves must have been an incredible experience for Josh Adam.

To witness the intensity with which Phil Foden and John Stones work behind the scenes ahead of a massive game must have been an eye-opening experience for the Scotsman.

Josh Adam would have taken away loads of lessons on how to train and play as his Manchester City side would be hoping to beat Wolves on the weekend.

Richard Arnold’s comments on Man City that left staff ‘baffled’ sum up old Man Utd regime
Richard Arnold stressed to Manchester United staff members back in September that the club were making progress in their attempts to “chase down” Manchester City

Former Manchester United chief executive Richard Arnold is said to have left staff bemused after claiming they were “chasing down” their neighbours, Manchester City, prior to his departure from the club.

Arnold, 53, became the first person to depart in the Sir Jim Ratcliffe-Ineos era when it was announced back in November that he was standing down from his role. He officially left Old Trafford just weeks later after 16 years of services across numerous roles.

Ratcliffe and his team have already implemented significant changes since acquiring a controlling stake in the club. Ineos poached the highly-regarded Omar Berrada from City to replace Arnold as CEO and have made other astute appointments.

The previous regime at United, including part-owners the Glazer family, have been heavily criticised by fans and pundits alike as a result of the club’s decline over recent years.

Erik ten Hag handed Man Utd lifeline as Sir Jim Ratcliffe left ‘unimpressed by alternatives’
During that same period, Manchester City have evolved into the Premier League’s most dominant outfit. However, a fresh report has outlined that Arnold felt United were closing the gap on their neighbours – something that left several staff members ‘baffled and exasperated’.

Those comments, as relayed by The Athletic, were made in September, just months after City had won the treble. United, by contrast, won the Carabao Cup last season and finished third under Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman has struggled this year and the club will miss out on qualification for the Champions League as a result of their disastrous league campaign.

Shortly after taking charge of football operations at Old Trafford, Ratcliffe has expressed a desire to bring in a number of “best in class” personnel behind the scenes in a bid to drive an improvement in United’s on-field performance. He’s also admitted that recent years had been “difficult” as a fan of the club.

He said in an interview with the BBC: “It has clearly been a difficult 11 years since Alex Ferguson and David Gill retired. It’s not switching a light switch, not just about a new coach or a simple short-term fix. We have to walk to the right solution not run to the wrong one. Short term issue is we want to get into the Champions League for FFP. Real challenge is it’s a two-to-three season challenge to get the organisation and environment right to get the performances on the field right and winning football matches. That involves the organisation, the design and structure of the organisation being correct.

“At the moment the coach reports to the CEO – that doesn’t make any sense. You need to populate the organisation, you need to invest in class. It will be a very exciting challenge and it will attract the best people in the world in my view.

“We have to find the best people in the world, ensure they have right character and personality to work positively in the structure – we don’t want disruptors or egos. And then create the right environment for elite sportspeople to be successful, all we’re doing here is trying to drive performance on the pitch.”

Pep Guardiola has reportedly noted the hole left in their squad by the absence of İlkay Gündoğan, who now plays for FC Barcelona.

Mateo Kovačić and Matheus Nunes have been used in his absence but neither has quite measured up to the German international.

Gündoğan was Guardiola’s first signings when he arrived at Manchester City, and one of the captains of the team. Guardiola has always been an admirer of his, but he was eventually allowed to leave on a free transfer.

There are some who say that Gündoğan would have changed the fortunes of the English club this season if he were available to play against Real Madrid. Regardless, City were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League on penalties.

Jack Grealish has revealed the simple tweak to his game he made following a conversation with Pep Guardiola.

Grealish signed for City from Aston Villa in a £100 million switch and has won two Premier League titles, as well as the Champions League, FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup.

It’s clear that he is a completely different player to the one we saw at Villa, where he was allowed the freedom to roam.

At City Grealish is instructed to stay high and wide and not to give the ball away.

    ADVERT

The emphasis on ball retention means he takes less risks on the wing but in a new interview, Grealish has shared the advice Guardiola gave him which has helped him on the pitch.

The England international likes to come inside off the left flank but has been instructed to use his left foot for his first touch as that takes him forward.

“It’s something I only actually learned in the last couple of years. Pep actually told me about this,” he said in a coaching session with Ellevate.

    ADVERT

“If I’m getting the ball off you and I’m receiving the ball with my right foot – the right footed touch is a good touch because I’m right footed but it automatically takes me back.

“The defender can just jump onto me and I’m going ba
