Every word of Jurgen Klopp’s response after being angered by Liverpool transfer question
Jurgen Klopp reacted with passion after being asked why Liverpool couldn’t further strengthen their squad in this month’s transfer window, having apparently ruled out the possibility of the Reds signing more players in January.
Injury-plagued and struggling so far this season, Liverpool have already signed Cody Gakpo in a £37m debut deal from PSV Eindhoven this month. But the Reds are currently seventh in the Premier League table, seven points behind the top four, which has cast growing doubt on their Champions League qualification hopes. Speaking at his press conference ahead of the Reds’ game against Brighton, the German confirmed he doesn’t expect Liverpool to make any further transfers this month.
Doubts about an injury to Darwin Nunez
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Darwin Nunez remains in doubt for Liverpool’s trip to Brighton & Hove Albion this weekend.
The Uruguayan was out of training for most of the week, with Anfield insiders confirming that Nunez has suffered a minor injury and is therefore at risk of missing Liverpool’s trip to the south coast.
And in his pre-match press conference on Saturday, Klopp offered an injury update on his £64m striker.
Klopp on transfers
“I had 6,000 press conferences in Liverpool, do I have to tell you the money story again? “Why could that be the reason we have huge amounts of cash and still don’t buy players? You know the answer!”
“It’s not like we have so much money that we don’t know what to do with it, but we think ‘ah, we don’t need anyone’.
“It’s not that easy. We can’t solve the problems [in the window] with injuries.”
More than Klopp on Firmino’s injury
“Initially it was estimated that it would take 10-14 days.
“Then Bobby felt something to prolong it again. He’s nowhere near team practice.”
Knock on Mo Salah
“What a trip! His dreams came true here, but it’s not over yet. “After all these years and competitions he still seems sharp with his speed. The most important thing is that he is always available.”
Klopp on multiple transfers in January?
“I do not believe. I bring it up because you ask me to, but my job is to use the guys we have. No problem.
“I like teams that line up. We can’t solve all transfer market problems.
“In dreamland you only buy players.”
More from Klopp on Brighton
“Brighton deserves respect.
“I don’t think anyone underrates them anymore, but who would have thought their holdings stats would go up after Graham Potter [passed]. “We have a chance to go to them and cause real trouble.”
Klopp on Brighton
“Brighton moves the ball well, that’s true. All games are really important now.
“It’s interesting, the second half of the season, two wins, a cup game lost, a cup game drawn, a league game lost.
“We didn’t like some of the performances [in those games].”
Klopp on Darwin Nunez injury
“We are waiting for information. Not a big one, but it stopped him from training, so we are waiting for that. “Yesterday Milner trained, today he’s back to normal. Firmino didn’t. Bajcetic is back today”.
Last injury Darwin Nunez
Darwin Nunez is a doubt for Liverpool against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday after the forward was not photographed in training on Thursday.
The Uruguayan scored his tenth goal of the season for the Reds in their FA Cup tie with Wolves last weekend. However, ECHO are aware that they have missed most of the week’s training and are therefore in doubt for the journey to the South Coast. The Liverpool manager will join us shortly to look forward to tomorrow’s game against Brighton in the Premier League.
