Expected line-ups between Arsenal and Brentford with Jesus and Smith Rowe starting, Lewis-Skelly’s making his debut

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal team selection on Wednesday night will be extremely interesting, given the way the season is going as no one knows what he will do against Brentford.

Given that this is a Carabao Cup tie and the Gunners have historically used it to rotate and create opportunities for promising young players, could we see the likes of Aaron Ramsdale, Jakub Kiwior and Emile Smith Rowe returns to the starting line-up for their debut or not. for Amario Cozier-Duberry and Reuell Walters too?

As Arteta faces a dilemma, football.london writers Kaya Kaynak, Tom Canton and Tashan Deniran-Alleyne are on hand to help the Spanish tactician. Below, they name their respective starting lineups for the match between Arsenal and Brentford.

Kaya Kaynak – Arsenal Editor-in-Chief

You’d have to be pretty ruthless if you don’t want to see Aaron Ramsdale return in this game. I can only imagine the chaos it would cause if Arteta opts for Karl Hein as he did in the third round of the Carabao Cup last season.

Personally, I want to rest as many of the first-team players as possible. That means bringing Cedric back in at right-back and Takehiro Tomiyasu at left-back. At centre back, I’d go for Jakub Kiwior and I’d chuck in Reuell Walters for his first senior Arsenal start. That way you can rest the whole back four. In midfield, I would look for a bit more experience and play Jorginho and Mohamed Elneny alongside each other. Meanwhile, Emile Smith Rowe is a bit better in terms of creativity.

Then, in the forward line, I would look for Reiss Nelson on the left and Fabio Vieira on the right. Above all, I think this could be a real chance for Kai Havertz to score his first goal for Arsenal, and after the way Eddie Nketiah played this weekend, why not give the German a chance.

I’ll start with what will certainly seem smug and cheeky, but my enthusiasm for the Arsenal League Cup campaign is not there. I never want Arsenal to lose (unless Tottenham lose the title or something), but if the Gunners give up the team’s fifth priority after the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and top 4 – yes, that does can still be a thing for us – I’m sure just a little sleep will help me get over my disappointment.

With this, my team not only reflects a team that should rest its stars ahead of the crucial match at Bournemouth this weekend, but also gives the players the opportunity to get minutes and minutes. perhaps confidence. Aaron Ramsdale needs to start, because another cold shoulder would be nothing short of disastrous for group harmony – forget being cruel, it wouldn’t make any sense.

The defense is a combination of rotation options with Gabriel’s stability. Please don’t take any chances with William Saliba or Oleksandr Zinchenko – Takehiro Tomiyasu and Jakub Kiwior are here for that reason. The midfield offers opportunities for the exciting Myles Lewis-Skelly alongside Jorginho, who has shone in the youth ranks and impressed in pre-season.

As Fabio Vieira occupies the Martin Odegaard role, Kai Havertz needs confidence and starting him for this game is the way I would go, flanked by Reiss Nelson and Emile Smith Rowe. Let’s hope for goals and progression but certainly no meltdown exploring the worst case scenario.

Arsenal need to win a trophy this season. Whilst the Carabao Cup may not be high on everyone’s list of priorities, it’s certainly a competition Mikel Arteta shouldn’t be speaking lightly and the whole point of spending big this summer is to have a squad that can challenge on all fronts.

Granted, injuries are beginning to pile up with Declan Rice, Leandro Trossard, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli unlikely to feature against Brentford, but the Spaniard can still name a strong side. For me, this is where Aaron Ramsdale makes his comeback after three games out and he has a point to prove after losing his place to David Raya.

In defence, I think it’s time Ben White and William Saliba are kept on the bench which means a rare start for Cedric Soares at right-back with Takehiro Tomiyasu on the opposite flank as Jakub Kiwior resumes his central defensive partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes who should be fresh after not starting the first three games of the season.

Surely it’s time Emile Smith Rowe gets a start in midfield alongside Jorginho and Fabio Vieira. Meanwhile, the attack consists of Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz as it’s important for both to build match sharpness and confidence respectively with Reiss Nelson getting the nod on the left.
