‘It won’t happen’ – Former Chelsea star explains why Liverpool hero Mohamed Salah won’t join Barcelona or Real Madrid
Former Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer does not expect Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah to join Barcelona or Real Madrid.
There was a lot of speculation about Salah’s future when he received an offer from Saudi Pro League giants Al Ittihad. The Red Devils rejected a £150m offer from the Saudis three days ago but a second offer of £200m is under consideration.
The 31-year-old player has two years left on his contract and is considered the main character of Liverpool. He has scored two goals and provided many assists in four games this season. Schwarzer does not think he will leave the Red Devils for another giant in the Premier League or La Liga, Barcelona or Real Madrid. He told BBC Radio 5Live:
“I don’t think Mo Salah would be interested in leaving Liverpool for another club, certainly not in the Premier League. And other than that, does he still have a chance to go to Real Madrid or Barcelona or someone? other?”
The Australian expert continued to explain that it is unlikely that the Egyptian superstar will come to Barca. He believes Madrid’s goal is to sign Kylian Mbappé from Paris Saint-Germain:
“Barcelona, not at all. It won’t happen. And Real Madrid, I don’t think so. I think they’ve grown in a different direction. Kylian Mbappé is their goal and that is their goal.
The Blaugrana and Los Blancos are on the hunt for successful signings this summer. The Catalan giants tried to lure Lionel Messi to the Camp Nou but he refused due to their financial situation. They instead signed Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid on transfer deadline day. Meanwhile, former Madrid captain Karim Benzema traveled to Al Ittihad earlier this summer. They needed a new scoring machine but summer rookie Jude Bellingham took the place. The English midfielder has scored 5 goals in just 4 games.
So a move to Saudi Arabia could be Salah’s most likely destination should he leave Liverpool. Schwarzer added:
“What interested him at first was of course the temptation of money. But because of religion and the chance to be the face of a tournament. »
The Saudi Pro League is on the rise after Cristiano Ronaldo arrived at Al Nassr in January. Many world-class talents have followed the example, including Benzema, Neymar and N’Golo Kante.
The Liverpool hero will also find familiar faces if he travels to Saudi Arabia as former team-mates Fabinho and Jordan Henderson ply their trade there.
Al Ittihad is said to be preparing a new offer but Liverpool insists not to sell Salah
According to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs, Liverpool still stand firm that Salah is not for sale. However, Al Ittihad is ready to make a second offer for the PFA Player of the Year award. The bid the Saudi giants are offering is £175m, with more than £120m guaranteed. However, Al-Numor is even considering spending up to £200m, including less viable additions.
Salah arrived at Anfield in 2017 from AS Roma for £34.4m and he became a hero on Merseyside. He scored 188 goals and 81 assists in 309 games in all competitions. The Egyptian star has won the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup. He has won the title of top scorer three times in England’s top league.
