Fulham boss admits facing tough discission making ahead of game with Manchester United
The Fulham boss admitted he had a ‘selection headache’ ahead of Manchester United’s visit
Fulham manager Marco Silva is still considering whether to start Raul Jimenez or Carlos Vinicius against Manchester United on Saturday lunchtime.
Although the Reds’ attacking options are limited, Silva has a similar problem with Jimenez and Vinicius struggling for goals. Rodrigo Muniz scored in midweek as Fulham knocked out former United manager Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town in the Carabao Cup, putting them in contention for top spot.
Silva’s preferred formation is 4-2-3-1, which means competition for places up front is fierce. But with none of his strikers performing well, the 46-year-old understood it was a problem ahead of United’s visit.
He told the media: “I have a headache when it comes to options, 100 percent. I have a headache that I have to decide who is the best in the game based on strategy and opposition.
“I have to say that the competition is tough and it’s up to them to do their best. With him (Jimenez) and Vinicius, it’s a question of courage.
“When the first (goal) comes, there will be more and we can all understand that he has this (rain goal), which scares him and our job is to give him the confidence to keep working on it. A goal is important to a striker, he must score, he will.”
For the Reds, only Marcus Rashford has managed to score in the Premier League this season and Erik ten Hag has to rely on goals from other areas of the pitch. Rasmus Hojlund has three to his name, but these only appeared in the League. However, the Dane could go on to capitalize on Anthony Martial’s poor performance against Newcastle in midweek.

Kluivert’s recall was twice denied by Reds keeper Caoimhin Kelleher, while the unmarked Ryan Christie had his legs widened in vain after Antoine Semenyo’s tackle. Liverpool dominated possession and should have taken the lead in the 27th minute when Harvey Elliott calmly shot past Cherries goalkeeper Andrei Radu from the penalty spot.
The hot-footed football player makes amends four minutes later and plays an important role in the opening. After a Kostas Tsimikas corner was cleared, Elliott’s on-rushing recovery was stopped by Gakpo on goal, then finished in the second attempt after Radu had pushed away the first effort.
Bournemouth boss Iraola said before the game his team faced a “huge challenge” but also had a great chance of reaching the next round. In the relentless rain, his team started the second half on the right foot and almost got an assist from the blowing wind as Alex Scott came in from the left flank from Joe Gomez’s hand goes to the second line.
Salah headed wide as Liverpool threatened to extend their lead before Semenyo headed over from the right at the other end and substitute Marcus Tavernier tested Kelleher from distance. Bournemouth equalized in the 64th minute
Another Scott corner caused problems for the visitors’ static defence, leaving the unmarked Kluivert with a simple headed finish to claim his first goal in English football.
The Cherries looked well-placed to push for a winner but were soon behind again.
Nunez initially lost control of Alexander-Arnold’s sweeping pass but atoned in devastating fashion by cutting inside Chris Mepham from the left wing to thump high into the net from just inside the hosts’ 18-yard box.
Bournemouth were given five minutes of added time to force spot-kicks but rarely threatened a second equaliser as Klopp’s men comfortably held on to progress.

Man City, Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool, Chelsea and Man Utd’s next five Premier League fixtures shows some clubs are likely to go down the EPL table
Manchester City enter the international break after back-to-back losses for the first time since 2018 and will be working hard to turn things around.
The Blues’ 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates will be heartbreaking, but the treble winners are still just two points off top spot. Pep Guardiola will be strengthened by Rodri’s return. The team lost all three matches and he was banned after a red card against Nottingham Forest.
City are unlikely to have it easy in their next series of Premier League matches in a period that will once again test the mettle of this season’s squad. The champions will confidently perfect their winning mentality to overcome Arsenal, who also face some tough encounters.
Brighton (H) – Saturday 21 October
Brighton also pose a tough challenge but must travel to the Etihad after four matches without a win, including a 6-1 loss to Aston Villa. However, they regained their composure to get draws against Marseille and Liverpool to restore confidence.
Homeowners must have enough to get the job done but never exclude seagulls from trespassing and stealing goods.
Manchester United (A) – Sunday 29 October
City may be going through difficult times, but their main rivals are living a nightmare. Only a late comeback prevented a defeat to Brentford that would have seen United lose three games in a row.
The champions will be eager for revenge after United’s controversial 2-1 win at Old Trafford in January. A heavy blow can send their opponents back to their pre-break form.
AFC Bournemouth (H) – Saturday 4 November
Bournemouth is one of two clubs that have not won a match in the Premier League this season. There seems to be a disconnect between Andoni Iraola, his players and the Cherries fans, and City will certainly try to exploit that. This will be the match where Erling Haaland sees the opportunity to score 8 goals this season. City have won 17 of 19 meetings with Bournemouth and have not lost a single match.
Chelsea (A) – Sunday November 12
Chelsea is no longer the same team as before but still needs to be respected. They are starting to show signs of a team that is perhaps starting to click after posting three straight wins.
They certainly won’t be challenging for top honors this season, but a number of Chelsea players have something to prove. City should have won all three points but will face a difficult journey.
Liverpool (H) – Saturday 25 November
In recent seasons before last season, this was one of two clashes that decided the championship and Man City had the upper hand. It is still too early to make a similarly contextual assessment of this encounter, but Liverpool have largely impressed so far.
Playing at home could see the hosts take all three points, while City have historically struggled at Anfield. This match, perhaps, will be more about seeing whether Liverpool will challenge them for the crown this time or whether Man City will have too much again.
