‘I’d rather play both than Darwin Nunez’ – Gary Neville thinks it’s easier to face the Liverpool duo than the Uruguayan
Garry Neville has revealed he would rather face Liverpool duo Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo than face Reds striker Darwin Nunez. He made it known after the Uruguayan striker’s heroic performance at St. James Park over the weekend, where he scored a brace against Newcastle United.
Nunez made headlines when he helped his team take all three points in the PL clash with the Warblers. Liverpool fell behind in the 25th minute thanks to a brilliant finish from Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon.
Things took a turn for the worse for the Red Devils when captain Virgil van Djik received a red card three minutes later. Liverpool had to play with 10 men for more than an hour of the encounter.
However, the game changed when Jurgen Klopp replaced striker Nunez in the 77th minute. The 24-year-old striker scored two important goals in 13 minutes to bring three points for his team.
Skysports pundit Neville reacted to Nunez’s performance, saying he would not want to face the Uruguayan striker in such form.
In his words, via TbrFootball:
“He Darwin Nunez] has an element of madness that makes his mind seem very quick and that is not a good thing for a striker. But today, it has settled, it has composed itself. And he had his chance before scoring two goals that I think are typical of the style he has shown at Liverpool. »
He continued:
“When that little touch in front of him could have given him his first chance but that touch took him back. But when he finally gets that first chance and that second chance, that’s what you have to do to be a top striker.”
Not wanting to confront Nunez, Neville explained:
“It was a big moment for Liverpool because if he can succeed I would rather use [Cody] Gakpo, I want to use [Diogo] Jota and both are really good players. ”
He continued:
“But I’d rather fight both of them than against Darwin Nunez. He would scare me to death when he ran over my shoulder at his speed, with the way he was always moving.
