Jamie Carragher joked he ‘sold’ Diogo Jota for ‘£25m’ in the first half hour against Leeds United on Monday night.

Jürgen Klopp has responded to recent criticism over the age of his Liverpool side by insisting the club will stay smart in the transfer window before a long overdue rebuild.
After winning the FA Cup and League Cup and achieving an unprecedented quadruple last time out, this season ended in disappointment and without a trophy.

Yet Klopp has punctually responded to recent discussions about his squad’s age, insisting that the experience of older players in his ranks has been key to the club’s recent trophy-winning seasons.
“We don’t have the youngest squad, we know that, but we also have a lot of young players,” the Liverpool manager said ahead of Monday’s Premier League match at Elland Road against Leeds United. “We’ve built a team over the years, we’ve been successful and last season we almost won the quadruple – as close as you can get.
“A lot of what we’ve achieved is based on the experience of the boys together – a year later we’re not that good. Everyone tells us: ‘You’re too old, we already knew that.’ Oh, did you know?’.”
However, when asked about potential transfers to lower the average age, Klopp refused to delve into player or fee speculation, confirming instead that the Reds will continue to operate in their usual ‘smart’ way. “I can’t give you a number [which we will issue] and I won’t give you a number,” Klopp added. “It’s about doing the right things, it’s not about how much, it’s about the right things and that’s what we always try to do.
