Jurgen Klopp has shared his delight that Curtis Jones has worked his way into Liverpool’s starting XI after being sidelined for most of his season through injury.
The England Under-21 international has started the Reds’ last five games and has been one of their most impressive performers during such a run, which has seen them unbeaten as Klopp’s side continues to adapt to his new “inverted rear”. Training.
Jones had started just one Premier League game this season before his final run with the team, with injuries limiting him to 17 appearances in all competitions this term. As a result, the 22-year-old had been written off at times ahead of Liverpool’s much-needed midfield overhaul this summer.
But Klopp is happy to see the midfielder once again show his quality on the pitch as he explains how difficult a season Jones has endured behind the scenes.
That he now has five games in a row is absolutely amazing,” the German told reporters. “It didn’t look like much during the season that something like that was possible because he had a crazy injury.
“We had to be super careful with him. Super, super, super careful with him. Even when he was back in training, he wasn’t allowed to have a normal training week. Back then, when he came back into the team, we were still in European football active, which meant we didn’t train properly.
“It makes it very difficult for players to come back to rev up. It was really super difficult to organize.
“There was a point where he was able to train normally again and it was clear quite quickly that the sessions he was having around our sessions were really but good from a physical point of view because he had the looking exhausted pretty quickly.”
He continued: “Now you can see with Curtis, always the academy boys, people are ready for big transfers. So if an academy boy plays good football, that’s fine, but “I’d rather have it come, have it come, and have it come.”
So I’m really happy for Curtis that he was able to reappear. He’s only ever in the team because he has real quality and you can see that now. He’s good on the ball, secure on the ball, which is super helpful, and extremely good at defending, which is more important because they’re all good footballers.
“He definitely deserved that spell. He really deserves it. He was having a hard time getting through. It’s hard when you’re not really hurt, but everyone tells you you are. You can’t do this and that, do this and that.
“It’s very difficult, especially for a young man. He’s overcome all of that and is in good shape now.”

Fabio Carvalho has admitted he would have liked to play a bigger role in Liverpool’s Champions League run of late, but insists his first season at Merseyside has highlighted the importance of patience.
The 20-year-old joined Anfield from Fulham in the summer of 2022, just months after the Reds missed their January deadline for the then Championship starlet.
However, since he made his debut as a late substitute in August’s 2-2 draw at former club Fulham, Carvalho has played just 324 minutes in the Premier League.
And since Liverpool returned to action after the mid-season World Cup in November and December, the forward has only fielded Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI twice; first in the League Cup loss to Manchester City in December, before earning a place at Molineux in the FA Cup replay in January.
However, speaking about his first season at Anfield, Carvalho acknowledged it was an “interesting” campaign and believes there are lessons to be learned from a long period of adjustment.
Patience,” Carvalho said when asked by HypeBeast what lessons he learned while competing for a spot in the Reds’ first team. “And how important it is to take a chance. At a club like Liverpool you have to be ready to grow and have confidence if you get picked. “It was an interesting season, but I learned a lot from it. Of course, I would have liked to spend a few more minutes at the club – but I think I learned a lot of valuable lessons which will help me improve in the future.
“I would like to have more minutes under my belt and get promoted before the new season. We have one last set of games to show what we can do as a team and what I can do as a player!
Currently, Liverpool have six games left of the Premier League season and face the prospect of missing out on Champions League qualification for the first time in seven years. But despite the potential setback, Carvalho is adamant the future remains bright at Anfield with the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones and himself all under the age of 25. “Certainly [the future is bright], just look at people like Harvey, Curtis, Trent is so young too…so people like Stefan are going to break through this season,” added the striker. “We are confident that we can do our best again and dominate again. I know it was not the easiest time to be a Liverpool fan.
