Jurgen Klopp is set to get a free summer boost in Liverpool’s midfield as ‘brilliant footballing brains’

Liverpool already know a midfielder who will register at the AXA academy this summer. Jurgen Klopp has already praised him.

Due to how Liverpool operate, FSG can’t afford to always buy the brightest new toy for Jurgen Klopp. The club often has to rely on its own scouting and player development from its coach.

Time and again, Klopp has demonstrated his skills in the latter and the Liverpool manager’s knack for getting the best out of his players and guiding them through the next phase of their careers will be in demand for years to come. According to The Athletic, it now seems more likely that Jude Bellingham will not join Liverpool this summer. Despite the club being a fan of the Borussia Dortmund midfielder – and who wouldn’t be – the reality for FSG is apparently that it could be too expensive to bring him to Anfield. And that’s before discussing whether the player himself can be persuaded to pick a team that may not yet be in the Champions League.

This means that the club may have to pursue alternative options to strengthen their midfield, and when it comes to affordable options, there may be nowhere better than one of the club’s academy products, Tyler Morton.

Morton alone won’t solve Liverpool’s midfield problem, of course. The Reds need at least one or two signings in that department; however, it could bolster Klopp’s options and give him another set of legs to work with.

Morton alone won’t solve Liverpool’s midfield problem, of course. The Reds need at least one or two signings in that department; however, it could bolster Klopp’s options and give him another set of legs to work with.

Often overlooked as a viable option for Liverpool next season, it would be premature to make that assumption given his exciting form this season. On loan to Blackburn, Morton developed into a well-rounded midfielder, capable not only of strong defensive performances but also of creating chances for his team-mates. The final test of his all-round talent came in the FA Cup where Morton produced a superb performance for Blackburn Rovers against Sheffield United in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Ultimately, Blackburn lost the tie, came within a whisker of reaching Wembley, but finally tasted defeat at the hands of a 91st-minute winner at the hands of Sheffield United.

Morton is still able to keep his head up though, as he dictated the play for much of the game. Not only did he create the most chances (3) on the pitch, but he also won two of his three tackles attempted and made 10 steals in what was an impressive all-around midfield from the 20-year-old.

Then last summer in pre-season, Klopp singled out Morton for further praise, once again underlining his tactical awareness as a footballer and his versatility. “By the way, Tyler Morton in training, amazing! He now plays as a number eight,” Klopp said in July. “We’re not forcing him to play as a controlling number six in a Premier League game.

“He works out like a figure eight, and he’s like ‘wow, how cool is that?!’ He’s still here.”

With an ‘excellent footballing brain’ coupled with his ability to play in multiple positions in Liverpool’s midfield, as well as his relatively young age, Morton has every means to benefit from Klopp’s magic touch when

After working on his physicality in the league, he is now more than ready to move on to an even more physical Premier League. Also up for grabs is the chance to secure a place in Liverpool’s first team.

Virtually every midfield spot is up for grabs at the moment given the Reds’ meager midfield, and if Morton is determined to make his mark at his boyhood club, he’ll never have a better opportunity than this summer. Bringing him back to the team will definitely be a huge boost for Klopp. A player of Morton’s talent would otherwise cost the club millions of pounds, but this time he knows he can get him into the first team ‘for nothing’.
