Jurgen Klopp says new Liverpool transfers will ‘definitely’ happen before first game vs Chelsea
Jurgen Klopp confirms Liverpool are working on new transfers ahead of the Premier League opening game against Chelsea
Jurgen Klopp expects Liverpool to have made further moves in the transfer market before their Premier League opener against Chelsea next month.
The Reds have already spent £95million this summer on overhauling their midfield with the arrivals of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion and Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig.
However, the expected imminent departures of both skipper Jordan Henderson and defensive midfielder Fabinho to the Saudi Pro League have left Liverpool seeking further reinforcement in the engine room.
The Reds were already looking for a long-term replacement for the latter with Southampton’s 19-year-old Romeo Lavia and Ryan Gravenberch of Bayern Munich heading the shortlist.
But the need for a more immediate solution has opened up a host of further options including Crystal Palace’s 23-year-old Cheick Doucoure while Liverpool are monitoring developments at Real Madrid regards the future of Aurelien Tchouameni, who they wanted to sign last summer.
And Klopp is convinced there will be at least one new face in place by the time Liverpool kick off their campaign at Stamford Bridge against Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea on August 13.
“There are so many things to do,” said the Reds boss when asked on the ‘We are Liverpool’ podcast about pre-season. “The transfer window is open. If my day would have 28 hours at the moment it would not be a problem – I could fill them easily!
“With all the things you have to do left and right, my main focus and energy has to go into the training sessions then that’s what I do. Then either side of the sessions I can try to help with other stuff.
“Still three-and-a-half weeks until the first game of the season. a few things have to happen before then, definitely, transfer market wise as well. That is clear now. And it will happen. New players have to come in. We will have a good team.”
