Kobbie Mainoo comes back, and Manchester United supporters select their squad to play Liverpool FC
Man United’s fans have given Erik ten Hag instructions on how to line up for their penultimate Premier League match before Christmas, which takes place at Anfield.
Supporters of Manchester United have selected the team they want to win at Anfield ahead of their difficult afternoon journey to Liverpool.
United hopes to restore some respect by visiting the location of their 7-0 thrashing from the previous season, but they are playing worse this time around. This season, Erik ten Hag’s team has now lost seven Premier League games. They have now dropped three of their past four games.
The most recent of those came at Old Trafford last weekend as Bournemouth cruised to a 3-0 win. United’s misery was compounded when Bruno Fernandes picked up a fifth yellow card the club captain will serve a one-game ban this afternoon.
Fernandes’ absence has opened up a spot in central midfield and fans have called for the return of Kobbie Mainoo to shore things up. The 18-year-old has been excellent in two Premier League starts at Everton and Newcastle, proving he can cope in the most fervent atmospheres.
Mainoo will not be Fernandes’ direct replacement, instead coming in alongside the improving Sofyan Amrabat to try and stifle Liverpool’s midfield. That will allow Scott McTominay, United’s main goal threat in recent weeks with three in five, to move further forward and try and nick another goal or two.
McTominay will be tasked with supporting United’s frontline and there will be no better time to get a first Premier League goal than today for Rasmus Hojlund. The 20-year-old will almost certainly start up front, with Anthony Martial unavailable due to illness.
The team Man United fans want to see play vs Liverpool
Antony is a sure-fire starter on the right but Marcus Rashford’s return to the squad leaves a choice on the left. United fans have decided to stick with Alejandro Garnacho, however, who will hope to occupy the space left behind by Trent Alexander-Arnold to great effect.
At the back, Harry Maguire’s absence through injury should allow Raphael Varane to return to the right side of the defensive partnership, with supporters opting to start Victor Lindelof over Jonny Evans. Luke Shaw avoided an injury blow and will likely start a seventh consecutive match, while the more defensive-minded Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been picked on the right of a back-four that will try to give Andre Onana a quiet afternoon.
