Let’s Go – Confirmed, Manchester United’s new signing will undergo medical today – contract expires in 2028

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Mason Mount is set to undergo a medical at Manchester United on Monday as he prepares to sign a long-term deal with the Old Trafford-based club.

The medical will be the next big step after the two clubs agree on the transfer fee. The deal is believed to be worth £55m, with an additional £5m in fringe benefits. Mount, whose current contract at Chelsea is just 12 months old, is set to move to Old Trafford this week.

Earlier, there were indications that Man United were looking at alternative options as Chelsea initially rejected the £55million offer that was put forward. After the negotiations, it looks like the two Premier League giants have reached a compromise on the transfer of the England midfielder. The 24-year-old is now set to sign a five-year contract with United.

According to reporter Romano, Mount is due for a medical on Monday, coinciding with the start of United’s pre-season.

The 24-year-old playmaker is set to leave Stamford Bridge after contributing 33 goals and 37 assists in 195 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea.

However, Mount struggled to find his footing at Chelsea last season as he scored just three goals and registered six assists in 35 appearances in different competitions. His performance was hampered by injury, with pelvic surgery sidelining him for the end of the 2022-23 season.

The midfielder is expected to finalize his move to United this week, and there is a possibility he could make his debut for the club on July 12 in the pre-season match against Leeds United.

United’s busy pre-season schedule includes fixtures against Lyon, Arsenal, Wrexham, Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Lens and Athletic Bilbao.

Mount’s official debut for the Red Devils could come on August 14 against Wolverhampton Wanderers as United aim to start their Premier League season with a win. Fans will be eagerly awaiting the 24-year-old in the famous red shirt. Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag’s side continue to actively search for new signings this summer, with a focus on finding a new centre-forward and at least one goalkeeper.

However, the exact budget available for transfers remains unclear due to the club’s ongoing recovery situation.
