Liverpool could go one step further to bring Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher to Anfield before the transfer deadline, reportedly.

The Reds are desperate to get at least some new midfielders in their next two transfer windows, with Jurgen Klopp insisting this weekend that all their business will be done in the summer transfer window.

Cody Gakpo arrived from PSV Eindhoven on 1 January but the Reds appear to have remained fairly quiet on the transfer market since then, believing they can save money for a summer move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham.

But despite Klopp insisting there will be no transfers, the Daily Mail insists Liverpool are still hoping to sign a midfielder before the deadline.

Gallagher turned down a £45million move to Merseyside rivals Everton from the Reds on Monday, with the England international “not interested” in the move in January. Newcastle United are also reportedly interested in Gallagher on loan and now the Daily Mail have thrown Liverpool into the mix as well.

Newcastle United are also reportedly interested in Gallagher on loan and now the Daily Mail have thrown Liverpool into the mix as well.

The newspaper insists Liverpool ‘love’ Gallagher and that he is one of the few targets they ‘want’ before the deadline, with Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes also in talks. Other newspapers said Liverpool are eyeing more goals ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, with the Daily Express insisting Sheffield United’s Sander Berge and Nunes are on their radar in the last few hours.

The Reds’ midfield has come under close scrutiny this season with Klopp’s side currently ninth in the Premier League, ten points behind Manchester United in fourth and a further eleven points behind leaders Arsenal.

And earlier this month, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher outlined the exact type of midfield the Reds needed to turn their season around.

“It seems to me that midfield has morphed into a more technical rather than forceful midfield and that’s what happens when you lose that Wijnaldum figure alongside a defensive midfielder,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“Right now tonight Liverpool had Jordan Henderson – who is not as energetic as he was three or four years ago – but the technical player like Thiago – and Harvey Elliott, Carvalho has played there at times. “This midfield is not what you expect or what Jurgen Klopp really wants.”

‘It wasn’t right’ – Jurgen Klopp is unhappy with Liverpool players’ body language at Brighton

FSG must justify Liverpool's $24m contract decision as Jurgen Klopp got two things wrong

Jurgen Klopp has questioned the body language of some of his Liverpool players after their tenure as FA Cup holders ended.
A stoppage-time goal from Kaoru Mitoma sent Liverpool to a 2-1 fourth-round defeat at Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon.

Harvey Elliott had given the visitors an early lead, only for Brighton to equalize just before half-time when a Tariq Lamptey shot was deflected by Lewis Dunk. And Klopp was not happy with the behavior of a number of Reds players, as their hopes of home silverware this season have been dashed.

“This is really a way to get knocked out of a cup competition,” he said. “If we’re in a better situation, ten points up in the league or something like that, and then you lose in Brighton, you say ‘respect’ because what they’re doing is really good.”

“But we are clearly in a situation where we want to take the last step. That’s why it feels very bad right now, because it didn’t happen. We took a step in the right direction but you can imagine nobody wants to hear it anymore, I can’t hear it anymore. But it’s still true. Then let’s start from there.

“We have to build on this kind of thing. We need to improve and some guys’ body language needs to be so much better.

Jurgen Klopp issues a warning to rivals Liverpool ahead of the second half of the season

Asked to elaborate on him’s point, Klopp said, “What else is there to say? If I talk about body language today it was not good, next time it should be better.

“Listen, I’m not thrilled with this performance. But again, the only thing that really happened was that we lost to a good team that we lost to in a terrible game. two weeks ago, today was much better.

“I understand 100% why people are unhappy with the game. But that’s just the situation we find ourselves in. There is no other way but to fight your way. You’ll never hear a manager in that situation say, ‘We’re going to change that and you’re going to see against Wolves and that’s it. ” You can not do this. That’s why we continue to work at 100%. “We still have room for improvement. We have taken steps, but we have to keep improving and we will. It is important that we stand up.

“We couldn’t have won the last game here, no chance. I was happy we didn’t lose more. But today, no one would have been surprised if we had won. It’s good, but for today and for the competition, it’s not enough.”
