Liverpool is now sure to secure three new signings shortly, with latest talks linking Martin Zubimendi and Anthony Gordon to …

What initially appeared to be a straightforward transfer, potentially involving a buyout clause, has turned into a more complex situation.

On Thursday, Zubimendi was seen training with Real Sociedad, indicating he was not heading to Merseyside for discussions. Furthermore, Sociedad included him in their squad for the friendly match against Union Berlin scheduled for Friday.

The unwelcome news has arrived: journalists have been informed that the Spanish club, his childhood team, is launching a “charm offensive” to persuade the 25-year-old to remain in San Sebastian, his hometown. They have apparently highlighted the stunning beauty of the Basque region. Has no one mentioned the attractions of Kirkby? It now boasts a Wendy’s, you know…

At this juncture, it appears that the decision rests entirely with the player, who faces a significant choice that ideally should be made soon.

Anthony Gordon training ground update following shocking Liverpool report.

Anthony Gordon is expected to participate in Newcastle United’s Sela weekender, having just returned to pre-season training on Monday. Gordon, along with teammate Kieran Trippier, was granted additional time off after competing in the Euro 2024 final with England on July 14.

As a result, they missed official friendlies against SpVgg Unterhaching, Hull City, Urawa Red Diamonds, and Yokohama F.Marinos, but are anticipated to play in either the match against Girona on Friday or Stade Brestois the following day.

“They required that time off,” Howe commented regarding their extended break. “It was crucial to provide them with a respite from the demands of football and the associated pressures.

However, they have returned in excellent condition and have trained very well over the past few days, which is encouraging. We are hopeful they will be involved this weekend. “Our aim is to give players as close to 90 minutes as possible a week before the season commences, and the best way to achieve that is through two matches, considering our squad size and numbers.

“This year presents a unique situation as players are returning at different times, so we must manage their playing time effectively. Nonetheless, the majority of the squad needs to be prepared to play a full 90 minutes against Southampton in a week, making this weekend crucial for us.”

Howe has noted that Gordon has been “truly remarkable” since his return, a statement that is likely to resonate positively with Newcastle fans in light of Liverpool’s interest.

Former Newcastle co-owner Amanda Staveley expressed concerns last month about the possibility of the club needing to sell Gordon to comply with the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

This worry emerged prior to Newcastle’s successful last-minute resolution of their financial issues, which involved selling Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson to Brighton & Hove Albion and Nottingham Forest, respectively, for a combined total of £68 million.

There were signs that the rumors regarding his potential exit had affected Gordon, particularly since Newcastle is the club he has supported since childhood.

Nevertheless, Howe stated, “His mindset is aligned with Bruno’s; it’s all about Newcastle. In the initial days, he has been outstanding, concentrating on his work and fitness—fully committed to this football club without any distractions. He’s been truly remarkable.”
