Liverpool transfer news as second Bayern Munich star ‘wanted’ alongside $49m ex-Manchester City man
Liverpool transfer news: Jürgen Klopp is keen to sign another Bayern Munich after Joshua Kimmich was linked earlier this week, plus a former Manchester City man.
Alexis Mac Allister, Mason Mount and many more. Liverpool have been linked with a long line of players to strengthen their midfield, but that’s not the only area of the squad Jürgen Klopp is hoping to improve this summer.
There’s a new name to emerge today – a player who could also see Liverpool up close when they take on Southampton this weekend – while after Joshua Kimmich was named as a possible target earlier this week, another Bayern Munich star has hinted that he is interested in Klopp.
Above all, all Liverpool need are players who can come in and make an immediate impression, without wasting time at the start of next season when Klopp’s side appear to be back on track. If Liverpool get off to a good start next season, there could easily be a title fight as the base already have a strong squad and will hopefully be supplemented by strong summer signings in the transfer market. Benjamin Pavard (Bayern Munich)
According to German website Kicker, Liverpool are interested in signing Bayern Munich full-back Benjamin Pavard this summer, although Real Madrid and Manchester United are also mentioned as possible candidates for the Frenchman.
Pavard, 27, is out of contract at the end of next season and so Bayern Munich risk losing him for nothing if they don’t sell him this summer, with Inter Milan and Barcelona also linked.
It’s the second link with a Bayern Munich star in just a few weeks, as Marca recently reported that Liverpool are interested in Joshua Kimmich. Liverpool.com says: Pavard can play at centre-back and right-back and has extensive experience at the top level.
Romeo Lavia (Southampton)
Liverpool take on Southampton this weekend and 19-year-old Roméo Lavia is one of the players who could play the last few minutes for the already relegated club.
A fee of “over” $49m (£40m/€46m) would be the asking price for a player who cost just $17m (£14m/€16m) last summer. Manchester City have a buyout clause, but it won’t come into effect until 2024, making a move this year unlikely, just 12 months after letting him go.
Liverpool.com says: Lavia is a talented player, but there could be a question mark as to whether he can come on and be on the pitch straight away. Perhaps he would work well if he were bought together with two older and more experienced players? Signing him as someone who will immediately join the team seems like a big ask.
