Manchester United can sell eight players, boosting their transfer budget by over £100m

Manchester United are expected to retire several players this summer and will need to do so if they are to raise significant additional transfer funds.

Manchester United will have to spend big this summer to close the gap to the best at home and abroad.

Erik ten Hag’s side finished third in the Premier League but were nine points behind second-placed Arsenal and 14 points behind champions City. With United back in the Champions League next season, winning the Carabao Cup and yet an FA Cup final ahead of them, there is hope that continued success and title challenges are not far away. But this requires a reinforcement of the workforce. The Reds are keen on a forward with Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen as main targets. However, both could be demanding £100m in fees and with additions needed elsewhere in the squad, United will have to balance the books.

Ten Hag will likely allow several fringe players to move forward if the price is right, and those exits could help fund large cash flows elsewhere. We take a look at players who could leave United and raise essential funds.

Fred

Donny van de Beek

The midfielder is back in training and the summer will tell us a lot about his future at United. The Dutchman had success at Ajax with Ten Hag but appears to be on the verge of leaving. He’s been out since being injured in January, but at 25 and with a wealth of experience under his belt, he should still be in for a respectable fee.

Antonio Elanga

He has downgraded the pecking order this season and a move could be right for all parties. The young Swede has made 21 league appearances for United since his arrival, but it’s hard to imagine he will gain much prestige in the future given the competition.

Alex Telles

He overstayed Old Trafford and was loaned to Sevilla this season, where he could finish the season with a Europa League winners’ medal. The left-back will not step out Luke Shaw at left-back and United will bring out Tyrell Malacia as his replacement.
