Manchester United fans have just learnt how quickly Rasmus Hojlund can run 100 metres
Manchester United fans have just learnt Rasmus Hojund’s 100-metre time.
On Saturday it emerged that United have agreed a £72million deal to sign Hojlund from Serie A side Atalanta.
The 20-year-old will move to Old Trafford for an initial £64million fee, with a potential £8million to be paid in add-ons.
Hojlund only joined Atalanta in August 2022, with the striker having since netted 10 goals in 34 appearances
Hojlund, who is set to put pen to paper on a five-year deal, with the option of an additional season, will be United manager Erik ten Hag’s third summer signing after the £55million arrival of Mason Mount and £47.2million acquisition of Andre Onana.
Although United had been attempting to sign Hojlund for below £60million, the Denmark international was reportedly Erik ten Hag’s first choice for the striking position.
Though the fee has raised eyebrows in certain quarters, given the forward has made less than 90 senior appearances across his career, United fans are certainly excited about their latest arrival.
Last term, Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini compared Hojlund to his compatriot, Erling Haaland, and revealed the youngster’s 100-metre time.
“The characteristics are very similar, especially in accelerations,” Gasperini said, via TalkSPORT.
“He is a very fast player, he does the 100 meters in less than 11 seconds. For his height, he has a low centre of gravity and an incredible stride frequency.
“I’m convinced he will have a great career. Technically, he always shows different and better things”.
United fans on Twitter (X) were delighted as news of Hojlund’s electric pace was shared across the platform.
One person said: “We are actually signing a supernatural athlete.”
Another wrote: “Ngl that’s genuinely insane”
A third person said: “Really shows why [Erik ten Hag] said he wants to be the deadliest transition team in the world. Fans were freaking out at that, but it IS a quality in a top pressing side.
“Getting ball winners and carriers is vital so we can feed Rashy and Højlund in those moments. Going to be fun to watch.”
A fourth wrote: “That’s unbelievably fast.”
