Man United beat Crystal Palace 3-0 in the third round of the Carabao Cup and this is how the players performed at Old Trafford.

Manchester United started their Carabao Cup defense perfectly with a 3-0 win over Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

Goals from Alejandro Garnacho, Casemiro and Anthony Martial secured United a place in the fourth round of the competition.

Manchester Evening News editor Samuel Luckhurst was in the press box covering the match and here are his notes on a night where a number of players shined.

He could have played in his slippers to secure one of the easiest clean sheets of his career until he was saved cautiously in the 67th minute. 7

    Diogo Dalot

His best performance for United this year. Made a great run and inviting cross for Alejandro Garnacho to make it 1-0. 8

    Harry Maguire

Made a vital interception to leave the game scoreless on the only occasion Palace threatened all night. An exciting evening for the former captain. 7

    Raphael Varane

Lead United and spend an hour against a harmless Crystal Palace team. A sterner test awaits them on Saturday. 7

    Sofiane Amrabat

A worthy left-back – where he played several times under Erik ten Hag – and he joins the midfield to complement the attacks. 7

    Casemiro

A force in midfield with Mason Mount and then Amrabat, he scored one goal and assisted another in a game where many would have given him a rest. 8

    Mount Mason

Created four scoring chances on his return from injury and United scored twice. Substituted at half-time in his best performance for a while. 8

    Facundo Pellistri

He worked tirelessly all night even though his ability on the ball was not very convincing. However, he really excelled when he started for United. 6

    Hannibal Mejbri

Received some words of encouragement from Ten Hag as he struggled to influence ball handling. He was still acquitted with dignity. 6

    Alexandre Garnacho

Break the clinical deadlock by reading Diogo Dalot’s retreat. A rich evening as he played the whole time. 7

    Antoine Martial

He ended his incognito with a superb volley that killed the game before time ran out. He must score in his first game of the season to make this a positive evening on a personal level. 7

    Victor Lindelof

Rarely gets angry with the left back. 6

    Johnny Evans

    Almost still marked. 6

    Dan Gore

He looked comfortable in his debut. 7

    Donny van de Beek

    A rare occurrence. 6

    Rasmus Hojlund

    I’m late. 6

    Manager

In a reasonable rotation and the absence of Christian Eriksen, the decision to bring on Casemiro is especially important. Like playing Mount in midfield. 8
