Manchester United look forward to sign another new player as Andre Onana now a ‘Done Deal’

All the very latest Man Utd news, views and transfer updates from the Manchester Evening News.

Andre Onana arrived at Carrington to complete his medical yesterday and Manchester United look set to have their second major signing through the door imminently.

The 27-year-old flew to Manchester after a €55m fee was agreed with Inter Milan, with personal terms already discussed. United will hope to fly their new first-choice goalkeeper to the United States for pre-season as soon as possible.

Erik ten Hag’s current crop will be in the US shortly, as they flew out after yesterday’s 1-0 win over Lyon in Edinburgh. Donny van de Beek scored the only goal of the game as several youngsters impressed again.

After the result, Ten Hag named his 31-man squad for the tour, with Dean Henderson included despite uncertainty surrounding his future. The likes of Amad Diallo, Kobbie Mainoo and Hannibal Mejbri will continue to get their chance.

Elsewhere, Chelsea are said to be exploring a move for Harry Maguire after news that Wesley Fofana has undergone surgery on an ACL injury. The French international is expected to miss most of next season, leaving Mauricio Pochettino’s side short at the back.

The Italian side are likely to ask for considerably more than that, but the report suggests ‘Man Utd will look to get the ball rolling in negotiations with an offer in that ballpark.’

Atalanta have previously put a €70m (£60.7m) price tag on Hojlund. There is a belief, however, that a deal could be struck for around £50m.

Other reports suggest Hojlund is ‘pleading’ with the Atalanta hierarchy to let him join Man Utd this summer.

The youngster would receive a huge pay rise if he makes the switch to the Premier League. As noted by TEAMtalk, his salary could increase by a staggering 800%.

Hojlund has reportedly been offered an £80,000-per-week wage at Man Utd, while he currently earns £10,000-per-week at Atalanta. So it’s no surprise he’s agreed to the move.

To move things along, the striker has pleaded with Atalanta’s CEO Luca Percassi over his desire to join Man Utd.

In conversations with Percassi, he has made clear that he wants them to let him depart for Old Trafford. He hopes they will quickly find common ground over the fee.

Any deal is likely to come too late for Hojlund to meet his new teammates on their pre-season tour of the USA. If an arrangement was to be struck before the end of the month, though, he could still debut for United in their friendly against Lens on August 5.

With that in mind, it will be interesting to see how Atalanta responds to Man Utd’s opening bid. It seems inevitable that the Red Devils will have to increase their offer to get a deal done, though.
