Manchester United predicted line-up vs West Ham as two undroppable stars to start
Manchester United will be going in search of a third successive victory when they welcome West Ham United to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
United, who were beaten 2-0 by the Hammers in December, recorded their first Premier League win of 2024 on Thursday evening in dramatic fashion, beating Wolves 4-3 at Molineux. Kobbie Mainoo netted a last-gasp winner to seal a fully-deserved victory.
The win in the Black Country, at the time of writing, elevated United to seventh in the Premier League table, moving them just one point behind the Hammers. United, however, have won just two of their last seven league games, meaning they need to use the victory over Wolves as a springboard to put a consistent run of form together.
Though United, in the end, made hard work of their triumph at Molineux, they produced some of the best football they have played all season. It means manager Erik ten Hag, who has won two of his previous four meetings with the Hammers, may refrain from tinkering with his XI.
With that said, Andre Onana, who was thrown straight back into the starting line-up on Thursday night after an underwhelming Africa Cup of Nations campaign, is likely to retain his place in goal. He has started each of United’s opening 22 Premier League matches this season.
As for the back four, it should remain unchanged, provided Lisandro Martinez’s injury is nothing too serious. He was taken off as a precaution in the latter stages at Molineux and was spotted with ice strapped around his foot.
If he is deemed fit to start the clash with David Moyes’ side, he is likely to start in the heart of the back-four alongside Raphael Varane. Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw will almost certainly once again occupy the full-back spots.
In midfield, Ten Hag is unlikely to tinker, allowing Casemiro and Mainoo to continue operating at the base of the midfield, with Bruno Fernandes pulling the strings ahead of them. Sofyan Amrabat could return to the matchday squad after returning from AFCON, meaning he, Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay could provide midfield cover from the bench.
In attack, United could also deploy the same trio, with Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford supporting Rasmus Hojlund. They have developed a good understanding in recent weeks and the trio make up United’s strongest frontline.
Manchester United could be unchanged against West Ham United.
