Manchester United reactivated their plans on a deal for Sofyan Amrabat

Sofyan Amrabat has been interested in Man United for weeks but they have been slow to recruit the midfielder.

Manchester United are working on a late deal to sign Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.

Amrabat, 26, was one of 10 midfielders United were shortlisted at the start of the summer, but the club lacked confidence against the Morocco international.

As Friday’s transfer deadline approaches, however, there has been a shift and United are now looking to sign Amrabat on loan, after claiming that if he leaves Fiorentina it will be another club.

Sources from the agency said United were not promising enough before they delivered too much, but Amrabat’s possible arrival would still raise questions about the club’s strategy in the market. United officials have complained about Amrabat speculation in the Italian media, but Fiorentina is the third Serie A club United deal with, after signing Andre Onana from Inter Milan and Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta.

Despite summer signing Mason Mount suffering a muscle injury in the loss to Tottemham earlier this month, United manager Erik ten Hag has always wanted to bolster his midfield with another addition.

Amrabat was born in the Netherlands and plays for Eredivisie clubs Utrecht and Feyenoord. The majority of United’s signings under Ten Hag were played in the Netherlands.

Fiorentina has left Amrabat in both Serie A games this season and his contract expires next year. Dutchman Ryan Gravenberch has been touted as another potential midfielder due to his peripheral role at Bayern Munich.
