Mohamed Salah snubbed as Liverpool star finished behind Casemiro and seven others at awards ceremony

Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah finished ninth in the FWA Footballer of the Year Awards on Friday

Mohamed Salah finished ninth in the FWA Footballer of the Year poll despite scoring 19 goals for Liverpool in the Premier League.

It’s no surprise that Manchester City’s Erling Haaland crowned the winner after scoring 35 goals with four games remaining in La Liga.

Arsenal duo Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard finished second and third in the voting, having guided the Gunners to the highly probable second place and their first Champions League campaign since the 2016/17 campaign.

The Egyptian was named both PFA Player of the Year and FWA Footballer of the Year last season but had to settle for ninth place despite scoring another 30 goals in all competitions and was the catalyst of Liverpool’s rise by entering the top 4 late.

Kevin De Bruyne had to settle for fourth, while Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford secured a place in the top five after returning in good form. It was a shock to see England captain Harry Kane finish in sixth place, despite having scored 26 goals for a struggling Tottenham Hotspur side this season.

Seventh place was taken by West Ham captain Declan Rice, whose side were in relegation battles when Casemiro’s impact at Old Trafford gave him eighth place.

Newcastle United skipper Kieran Trippier completed the top 10
